Royal Hideaway Trip Report
My husband and I returned Friday after spending 10 nights (June 8-June 18) at the Royal Hideaway in Playacar, Mexico.
We were in villa 26 (room 2615) on the ground floor. Luz was our concierge and she took care of everything from dinner reservations to spa reservations to tracking down movies during the storm for us during our stay. My husband ordered roses through Luz for me to be placed in our room on my birthday. She did this plus she placed a birthday banner in our room. She was wonderful and always very gracious. We had mostly good weather with the exception of the tropical depression that passed through the area June 10-June 13. I’ve never experience a storm like that before and I hope I never see one again. The resort did their best to keep water out of everyone’s rooms and the power and satellite TV system working. The water was 6-8” deep flowing down the sidewalk like a stream. I believe they had twenty some inches of rain in 3 days. RH offered movies in the main building and a few games in the Allegria bar during the day to try and get the guests out of their rooms. Room service was always available, even during the worst downpours. We both had massages at the RH spa. This is something we usually do on vacation. It was very nice and relaxing, but it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was in no way bad. We ate in all the restaurants except Azia. All the restaurants were fabulous. My husbands’ favorite restaurant was The Grill because he loved the marinade on the steaks. My favorite was a toss up between Spices and Ventannas. I loved the tortilla soup at Spices and the tenderloin filet at Ventannas. My husband wanted plain ice cream for dessert one night at Ventannas. They did not have any there and our waiter went to another restaurant to get him strawberry ice cream. The entire staff could not do enough for you. The service around the pool was my only complaint. A lot of reviews I read raved about how great the service was and their glasses were never empty. We did not have this experience. Several times on many different days there were not enough wait staff to take care of the guests around the pool area. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mind getting my own drinks, but for the price we paid to stay there I would have thought they should have an extra waiter or two on staff at the pool. Based on this experience I would return to the RH. If anyone has any specific questions feel free to post back here or email me directly at nfahey@verizon.net. |

How was your room? I am going in August for my honeymoon. All in all, most reviews I have read have been positive. It doesn't take too much to impress us, but the price is high so I hope it is worth it.
Was the beach ok after the storm? Thanks for all the other info! |
