Aventura Spa Palace Beach or no beach?

This is a little confusing. The pictures on their website make it look like their is in fact a beach at the resort, but the posts I have read here (and elsewhere) seem to hint otherwise. Just wondering if what I'm seeing on their website is a pool rather than a beach.

Also, is ASP located near PdC? Does anyone know how long of a cab ride it is?
I am trying to narrow down our choices for our honeymoon next Spring.

Thanks!

Aventura has a man-made beach that fronts a man-made lagoon. That part of the coast is rocky so there is not a natural beach. If you're looking to swim in the ocean and experiences waves, Aventura won't give you that. Xpu-ha Palace has a much better beach (beautiful crescent beach), but it is a very different resort than Aventura - much more adventurous. Think of it as rustic luxury. Personally I far prefer Xpu-ha, but it's not for everyone. There's lots of walking as it was built on an eco-park and is spread out among a large chunk of the jungle. Xpu-ha has a great beach, two nice pools, fresh and salt water snorkeling, kayaking and fascinating jungle with animal habitats.

If you're looking for a typical beach hotel, Xpu-ha's not that. But if you want a really cool and different experience, you can't beat Xpu-ha. I think it's hands-down the best Palace resort. A little bit of everything.

Here are some photos from our trip last year to Xpu-ha. We went back again this year and loved it!

By the way, Aventura is about 10-15 minutes south of PDC. Xpu-ha is about 5 minutes south of Aventura. The cab fare from Xpu-ha was $14 each way. I would assume that it's about the same or a little less from ASP.

Thank you so much for the info...great pics too!
The man-made beach makes sense...I didn't realize that was what was in the pictures.

Now I am going to have to add Xpu-ha to my list too! I don't think I will ever be able to narrow it down. The more research I do, the longer the list of resorts gets!

Taxi fare from ASP to PDC is $12.

I would recommend ASP as a great honeymoon resort. It has great rooms and awesome pools. The fact that it only has a man-made lagoon for a beach may be a deterent to some but for people like me who don't care about a beach this resort is the real deal.

Check out my pictures at www.haakman.ca

Wow - Great pictures. The place looks beautiful on their website (but don't all hotels?) and equally as nice in your pictures! I don't really mind not being in the ocean...it's a beautiful setting.

What were those drinks you were drinking? Is that a shot you drink through a straw?

I think they were called 'La Cucarachas' (?sp) and they're served in a shot glass set on fire. Do not drink one from a brandy sniffer because they get too hot. They're awesome.

Glad you enjoyed the pix.
