Haven't been since April when the food was still great. There was a change in ownership this summer but it's still open. Can anyone else provide an update?

Best Tacos

Where is Aca Los Tacos? The Playa Maya News is running a pole for the best tacos, so far Aca Los Tacos are out in front. I've search this forum and cannot find any reference to this place. Is it a new restaurant?

Here are the locations for three of the restaurants.

LOS 3 CARBONCITOS (Tacos al Pastor): Located on on Calle 4 between Av 5 y 10.

VIVA MARGARITA (Margarita): Located in the Paseo del Carmen on Av 10 between Av Juarez y Playacar.

PUMMAROLA (Pizza): Located on a dirt road called Flamingo Road in the North end, one block from the beach between Shangri-La and Reef Coco Beach hotels and catty-corner to the Natz Ti Ha condos.

Ate at Media Luna last week with Becky and family and everyone's food was delicious! (Believe me, I stole a taste from everyone's plate!) I got the Oriental pasta special with shrimp and I've been thinking about it ever since.

That's wonderful news! Media Luna has always been one of our favorites, however, the year or so before it recently changed ownership the service had gone seriously downhill. I'm glad to hear the change was for the better. Has the menu changed at all?

Our service was fine, but we were all yakking so much we might not have noticed if it weren't. As for whether or not the menu is changed, this was my first time there, so I'm no help on that. It won't be my last! (Mmmmm, thinking of the bruschetta is making me drool, even this early in the morning!)

According to an email I just received from Suzanne Bandick, the Editor of Playa Maya News, ACA LOS TACOS is located under the Caribbean Paradise Hotel on the corner of Constituyentes and 5th Ave. Mystery Solved! Now...will some Playa Peep go over there and check 'em out?

I can hardly wait to sink my teeth into some Tacos al Pastors. I think I will make the rounds! I won't stop there, it'll be on to El Oasis and shrimp tacos. I haven't seen where any peeps have eaten Chinese food in Mexico. Anyone out there been to Mama Wangs (Jack and Fanny)?

Eating in Playa

WOW! The little place called La Cabana located on Constituyentes Ave. between 1st and 5th (just up the street from El Porto Real) and run by a local family became our regular afternoon spot for Coronas and snacks. Absolutely first rate at a great price. I think during the 8 days there we tried everything on the menu and all was just great. The walls on the inside of the place are decorated with messages written by their patrons around the world.

For a local restaurant with genuine home made REAL Mexican food try El Sasape on Avenue Juares between 20 and 25th streets. It was recommended by a waiter at Jaguar's (another highly recommended eatery). Not much English is spoken there but ordering was no problem at all. Beware of the salsa however, its HOT!!!!!!!!

For a real experience go out to a place run by an expatriat from Texas. Its located on 10th Ave between 6th and 8th Calle. It's called Captain Bob's.

You really can't go wrong eating anywhere in Playa, its all good.

Although Aca los Tacos has done a rather nice job of remodeling the space at 5th Avenue & Constituyentes, I thought the tacos el pastor there (tried it twice) were merely so so... This was right after they first opened, so it could have been growing pains when I did the taste test or a clear case of a skewed survey.
