Magdalena's is not a changarro, so you won't be eating for 35 pesos each. Four of us ate well there one evening for about 800 pesos. That includes entrees, drinks, dessert, coffee, and tip. Everything is fresh and well prepared.
You can find the location in Necie's post on page 3 of this thread. |

I wanted to give it a try but I arrived late, is open from 07:00 through 19:30. It's a real mexican place and targeted on locals, so don't excpect them to speak much English nor the toilets to be nice. The menu looks very nice but as mentioned, I couldn't try it. So next time. |

I don't know what happened to Tacos Arabes/Israel, but from the last time I was in Playa, the place now looks empty (only one table at 20:30) and the meat at the pastor grill wasn't looking fresh nor appetizing. I was willing to compare the flavor but decided on going to try Babe's that night and I'm very happy with what I found there. El Sarape. Not exactly a changarro but I don't think you will be disapointed with the food. Maybe the prices will be higher than other restaurants with similar menu but the toilets will be nice and clean. Las Brisas. Ate there two years ago, the food wasn't expensive but it wasn't the best I could ask for. Los almendros. Same as las Brisas. |

We ate at Tacos Arabe/Israel a couple of weeks ago. Wide open and busy with Jughead on the menu and everything. Enjoyable and good, though I enjoyed the tacos al pastor at El Fogon more - though the chicken tacos at Arabes were real good.

what is your favorite spot for mole'?
we are huge fans of mole' sauce.whats everyones favorite place to go for it?
We are really looking fwd.to sampling some truly authentic mexican flavors and this is high on the list.all the chatter about the shrimp tacos is driving us to making a list of "must eats" when we need a break from drinking! I would love to bring home some mole paste /base that i saw in a market in PDC since it is cooked it shouldnt be a problem bringing it thru customs, right? |

Authentic flavors:
Cochinita pibil, Relleno Negro, Salbutes, Tamales (singular is Tamal), Sopa de Lima (looks simple but it tastes like no other soup), zic de venado, queso relleno, uuuuhhh so many more to try. And I am only refering to Yucatecan Cuisine. Mole paste, should present no problems at customs, my Mom and Sister always take a lot when they go back to SF. |

Relleno Negro
Oh yeah, relleno negro is awesome. I've had it two ways: the soup/stew, at Faisan Y Venado (on the highway), and the kind that's served in tacos or tortas from the carts by the bus station.
don't be put off by the blackness: created by lots and lots of black pepper and charred chilis. :p |

Please note that (per my food trip report) the info on the wonderful HC de Monterrey is slightly off-- you have the name listed as HM and the address as being between 25 and 30 when it's actually between 20 and 25. Might want to change that in the above. As I said in my food trip report, thanks so much for compiling it all in one place, it was really helpful and I carried the printout around with me all week.

Must mention restaurant in Playa
Just got back from Playa.. on 10th Ave. either 6th or 8th street a little place called Los Almendros. This is the must stop for my husband and I when we visit Playa. Very inexpensive, our rave is the Shrimp in butter and garlic, 6 prawns for about 850 peso.. comes with rice and salad and tostadas. ENJOY!
