I was at Viva Maya in January. Despite what others say about All Inclusives, you can have your cake and eat it too. I love the resort - no worries about food, drinks or activities during the day and the Disco at night was adequate - if not overly full all the time. But . . . there's no one stopping you from going into town to do any of the activities there . . . I usually left the disco at midnight and went into town. Find a few friends to share cab-fare to make it a bit cheaper.
Have a few FREE drinks at the hotel and you're visit in town is much, much cheaper. The town rocks till the wee hours - bars don't usually close till past 3 or 4 a.m. and there's always somewhere else to go, if you want. I walked back from PDC a few times at 5 a.m. and had no problems, though I would probably suggest walking as a group at that time of the night/morning. eMail privately if you want any further information from someone who always said they'd never do the All Inclusive trip. thefiche@reach.net |

hello. just a couple of questions regarding this resort.. I was curious how much to expect the cab fare to be from the bus/taxi station in play to the resort. I also wondered what distance the walk is via the beach from the resort to pdc. Heading there on Wednesday of this week!!!Can't believe it's so soon...anyway, any additional info anyone has regarding this resort would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm heading out on the following wednesday, I heard from a friend that the beach walk is about a mile and a cab ride was about 5 pesos but that was several years ago. Anyone know how much the price has gone up?

A taxi ride between Playacar, where Viva Maya is, and the town of Playa del Carmen is only a few minutes and it costs about 4 dollars. Taxi should be your choice after dark. Not that Playa is dangerous or anything; it's just safer not to walk around in the dark, especially for women.
