1. How old was the girl in the 1961 Neil Sedaka tune Happy Birthday? 2. Mr. Brown, Mr. White, and Mr. Red are together in an office. The three men are wearing ties that are the same colour as their last names, although no one’s tie matches his name. Mr. Brown asks the man with the white tie if he likes red. What is the colour of each man’s tie? 3. What company did Elsie and Elmer work for? 4. Choose the correct letter for each clue in the following rhyme. When put in order, the five letters will spell the answer to the riddle. My first is in grass, but not in space. My second in race, but not in place. My third is in ever, and also in here. My fourth is in see, and also in hear. My last in no is always found. My whole a colour all around. 5. What city did Bob Hartley practice psychiatry in on The Bob Newhart Show? 6. What number gives the same result when it is added to five as when it is multiplied by five? 7. What singer was the first black to have their own TV network variety series in 1957? 8. An artist wishes to obtain a canvas for a painting which would allow for the picture itself to occupy an area of 72 square inches, with margins of 4 inches on the top and bottom, and 2 inches on each side. What are the smallest dimensions possible for such a canvas? 9. What TV show centred on the disabled rocket ship Jupiter II? 10. What is it that you can keep after giving it to somebody else? |

The answers...
Tough Test 3 - Answers 1. Sixteen (Sweet 16, as a matter of fact.) 2. Mr. Brown doesn’t wear a brown tie, as that is his name. He can’t be wearing a white tie, since he questioned the man wearing the white tie. Therefore, he must be wearing a red tie. Mr. White’s tie can’t be white, so it must be brown. That leaves only the white tie, which must be worn by Mr. Red. 3. Bordens (They were the contented cows.) 4. Green 5. Chicago 6. One and one quarter 7. Nat “King” cole 8. The canvas must be 10 inches in width, and 20 inches in height, the picture itself 6 inches wide and 12 inches in height. The margins would then be as required. 9. Lost In Space 10. Your word |
