Travel Companion

I am one of the Jaimes of The Beer Bucket and El Oasis and I am leaving Northern Minnesota at the end of July to drive to Playa (moving down full time, FINALLY). I will be heading to the Prairie Dog Blues Fest in Pairie Du Chen, WI, then south on the Mississippi through Memphis to New Orleans to meet up with Donald (of the No Name or 5th Ave Bar & Grill for you tourists) for a few days. After the Big Easy, I will follow the Gulf Coast until Bahia Del Carmen, then on to Playa across the Yucatan. It's a total of 3700 miles with lots of adventure along the way. I may be interested in a traveling companion (female). The trip will be at a easy pace and I plan on having fun along the way. I have few requirements in a travel buddy but they must not be a whiner! I plan on arriving in Playa around the middle of August so having an open ended time limit is a must. Interested? You can send me a private message via this sight.

Considering all the replies I've gotten, I am thinking of changing my log in name to "Psyco Killer"!

Do you think this part of your message might have something to do with the paucity of responses? It comes across as a bit more of a personal ad than a reqeust for someone to share a trip.

Not a Chauvenist! Just a realist.

Big words...and a cynic too! I guess honesty isn't the best policy with some folks....Really, I'd enjoy a 3700 mile trip with an ugly, cranky, whiney female as opposed to a pleasent looking, intellegent, fun lady.

Let's see: not a whiner and open ended time limit...that's two. Two is too many? Just shoot me! With all the Minnesotans on this forum I thought someone would be interested in a adventure. I mean, I've been a Minnesotan all my life and my experience has been that we are usually up for a road trip! I was not thinking of this as a "personals" ad because that is NOT the way I am! But, I also know that this is going to be a long and possibly trying trip and I'll be darned if I'm going to get to Memphis and be ready to throw someone out on the road. I was thinking of fun, adventure, and shared experiences with a person who could appreciate my company...But I pay the bill so I get to chose the rider, so to speak. Sorry for all of you out there who's minds are sicker or more cynical than mine.

I'd go, if I could. (Well, I'd have to meet you first, though). But my hubby wouldn't like me off traveling with another man, especially to some place that I wouldn't want to come back from. Besides, I have a job and all that.

Jim it just reads that way to people that don't know you, myself included. Even you must have thought the same on second reading or you wouldn't have posted:

Thank you, Sue, for your POSITIVE post! Would suggest that there is room for both of you, but then I get flashbacks of the movie "Kalifornia". I guess the sixties have been over so long now that even I am less trusting. Sometimes it's easy to transport the mind back to the days that my only form of transport was a thumb and naivity. "What, me worry?"

I know what you mean about the trust thing. When I was 21, I hitchhiked from Oregon down to San Francisco with a 13 year-old female that I barely knew (we and others had met at the Rainbow Gathering in Colorado). I'm 33 now, and I can't believe I did that! I don't think I could do it again. I don't have the courage (stupidity?) that I had then.

Gotta say I met Grande Jaime once, fleetingly, one evening last March, at the Beer Bucket - the watering hole he co-owns. Don't know if it can be considered an endorsement or not, or a reference, but I figure anybody who likes to sing Jimmy Buffett songs as much as he does...and sings them as badly as he does...but still has the cojones to pursue the venture in public with such gusto and enthusiasm, is okay by me. Now ladies, as to how harmless he might otherwise prove to be in different areas...I decline to speculate.

Jimmy Buffett? Hmmmmm.....that's an awful long road trip if you're listening to Jimmy Buffett (as well as someone singing along (badly)) the whole way.... :ponder:

Hey, I don't sing badly, Bumper! You just HEAR badly....do I recall Corona bottles stuck in your ears, or was that some else who didn't like my singing? By the way, have you ever sat through Sharky's renditions of "House of the Rising Sun"? If so...need I say more. One more thing...I do listen to music other than Buffett...in fact I have a wide range of musical interests (but I'll save all my Buffett numbers for the next time Bumper's at the Bucket).
