I guess it's about supply and demand, and where you're flying from. I can get there a lot cheaper than that, but we drive 2 hours south to Seattle.
Sometimes you can't look at comparable pricing, you just have to figure out what you really want to do. For the cost of our recent trip through the Rockies, etc. we could have flown to Cuba for a week....but we decided this driving/sightseeing trip was more of a priority for us at this time. If San Fran becomes more of a priority for you, then you'll make a way to get there.
