Lots of Scandinavians in Playa. Stop by la Ranita with Ted and Pia or have some nice noodles at Babes with Per. Totta Näslund comes down about once a year for a couple of months. In the past Playa used to be mostly visited by Europeans. In the last few years the word has spread out through the US about this little piece of paradise...

I am 1/2 Dane. My mother is full Dane. Her parents both remembered arriving and spending time on Ellis Island. When they immigrated with their families from Denmark.

I wish it was me, skipping the winter. I was in play in July – August. I’m not sure when I will be back. Soon I hope.

50% Norwegian and 50% Swedish here. Last week, working with Grampa
on the internet, we traced the Swedish side from Olof on the boat to the US in 1871
back through 1751 in Sweden.

So Thor, how are the lefse and lutefisk on the Holidays?

You asked only for scandinavian members... There are more europeans though but in comparison to others I am pretty boring as I am 100 % german.

We don't eat too much lefse and lutefisk nowadays in <ST1:p<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Norway</ST1:p. It's a tradition some places before Christmas though. Norwegians eat more pasta and pizza these days.

My last name is Wegener, and my family came to Norway from Dresden, Germany about 1500.

We are all in family.

"But there’s lots of Americans.
You Americans don't have so far to travel to go to Playa. That must be one of the reasons. It's also expensive to go from Europe to Mexico."

Non stop flights from many American cities to Cancun is a major factor in
the number of Americans in Playa. As much as I enjoy Playa, I would prefer
to go back to the Spanish coast between Barcelona and the French border.
Too bad it's so expensive and time consuming, what a beautiful region.

By the way, in Minnesota the big Christmas time argument is whrther to
serve white sauce or melted butter. How is letefisk served in Norway?

With melted butter I think. But my family don't eat Lutefisk (fish) at all. We have Pork Ribb for Christmas.
:p
