Is anyone worried about terrorist attacks this summer/fall prior to US elections?

We leave Oct 28 for Palladium and I am starting to get nervous about something happening during our trip(since the election is Nov 2). Anyone else concerned or should I not worry about it?

Not to be flippant, but is there anything you could do about it if you stayed home and didn't come to paradise? And wouldn't you much rather be in a place that won't be getting attacked? The possibility always exists for something to go wrong somewhere. If we worried about all these things, and let them prevent us from seeking our enjoyment of life, well... we might as well call it quits today.

In short, I wouldn't change your plans.

Let me try and put this into perspective:<O:p</O:p

As someone who just returned from the "terrorist hotbed" of <ST1:p<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Bali, Indonesia, I can tell you that worrying is just about the most absurd thing you could do. If I had been a worry wart and heeded the advice of the travel warnings, I would have missed a 9 day honeymoon in paradise. My wife and I visited many villages and towns and found the locals to be very welcoming and helpful. I can also tell you I felt safer on Bali than I have felt in the <ST1:pDominican Republic, Jamaica, and Certain states of <ST1:pMexico. Many of those locals made me promise I would tell people to come to <ST1:pBali</ST1:p!!!! If you don't that’s OK too, we don't want it to be crowded when we go back next year!<O:p</O:p

<O:p</O:p

These warnings against "no specific targets" are pretty ridiculous. The only terrorists the administration is worried about at election time are the "terrorists" who will not be voting for Bush-Cheney, IMO!<O:p</O:p

fear of terrorist attacks...no

fear of George W. getting re-elected...yes

only a right wing kook should vote for George W. after all the blunders he has made. he had been an embarrassment to our nation every time he moved his lips (he said "crusade" during a state of the union). the outright lies he has told the american people...misleading members of congress to support the war, in the name of patriotism and anti-terrorism.

I just hope we don't kill 240,000 people like we did during our occupation of the philipines. else the Muslims will really have a reason to attack us...

I'm not burying my head in the sand on terrorism and the big political debate "du jour", but hey, this forum is for fun and information, okay??

Let's talk about lost luggage and beer and the best tequila and "what I did on my Playa vacation......(i.e. the REALLY important stuff).

Joe - as others have already stated above - do not let any actual or perceived threats alter the way you live your life (it is already too short). Living in Manhattan, I was relatively close to the events of 9/11, but, we must go on living or the terrorists win. I went to the first baseball game in NY that September and I was called brave. I didn't consider myself brave, I considered myself a Met fan who wanted to see my team win. And I wanted to do my small part in showing the world that New Yorkers, and Americans will not cower in fear. As for the politics written above - I prefer to keep politics out of paradise...lets get back to the tacos and cervezas and questions like, "what's the weather going to be like on august 1st at 2:45pm, as that is what time my wife and i will be arriving in PDC?"

Here's a famous quote from my bud Gary down in Tankah....
"What the hell are they gonna do, fly a 747 into my palapa er what!"
that was from a discussion we had on 9/12/01, just 36 hours after the attacks

Terrorists are going to attack the Palladium to disrupt the election in the US?
George Bush occupied the Philippines?

…..got to go (off to the political forums for some vacation travel info).

Seems like if you're worried about an attack to disrupt the United States election, Mexico would be a safer place. I just don't see how an attack in PDC would change the US election.

My guess - Joe is worried about getting back to the US if anything happened (like all the planes being stuck in NE Canada for a couple of days back in '01)...but man, if you have to be stuck somewhere, you can't ask for much better... than Playa!

I am worried Michael Moore will beat Tsunami Kobayashi at the next Nathan's Famous International HotDog eating competition. Now there is a conspiracy in the making, dont say I did not warn you !!!
(Just kidding !!! so please dont blast me and say I am being mean to Mr. Kobayashi or trying to bash hot dogs )

I think some one said it best a few months ago on this very forum, you are in more danger of getting hurt/killed in a car wreck going to the airport. So drive carefull and dont forget your passport !!!!!

Joe, I feel that if we change our plans out of fear of terrorist then we have let them win. I will be traveling in October. Of course, everyone has their own comfort level so you have to make your own decision.

Nerak, Thank you! I agree that this board is for vacation plans and dreams not for political arguments. I hope it remains the friendly, helpful place it has always been.

We were in the Playa area during the 9/11 attacks... it actually turned out to be a very memorable extension of our vacation... the Mexican people were very generous and helpful towards all Americans that week and we still stay in touch with some of the friends me made.

I won't even address the Phillipines comment cause it will just make me
