Man... that's a TOUGH ONE! I hardly know any of these... not that it takes a tough one to cause that to happen....

1) Atlantic
2) I think this one is a trick question and can't mathematically be done (by me, anyway); how can you add half your own weight to your weight, and still end up with your original weight? A 1lb fish, for example, according to the instructions in the riddle, would now weigh 1.5 lbs [adding (1.0 lb) + (1/2 his weight of 1.0 lb) = 1.5 lbs]... am I making this more complicated than the question warranted--I do that sometimes....
3) 100 (if a "standard" record is a 33-1/3 rpm)
4) I can get to 101... then they can ask for a 1 lb box (since they have all those boxes) and return the last 1 lb... no? okay....
5) Wyoming
6) nothing comes to mind... hmmmm...
7) no, it just looks like she does
8) tuba, trumpet, trombone... uh... ummm... tambourine? triangle? tympany drum?
9) "slinky"... ha, get it?? (okay, no idea)
10) R, R, R, R

Okay, okay, okay. Here's the answers.

Tough Test 4 - Answers
1. Atlantic Time

2. The fish weighs 2 pounds. Two halves make a whole, so if the fish’s total weight is the sum of 1 pound and a half the total weight, the other half must also be 1 pound.

3. 100 (3 X 33 1/3)

4. Best West will supply 4 boxes of 17 pounds each, and two boxes of 16 pounds each.

5. Wyoming

6. Numbers for his house.

7. No

8. Trumpet, trombone, tuba, timpani, triangle, tambourine, tubular bells

9. Mattel (Barbie clothes)

10. R R R R (Last letters of the names of the months)

So combined we got everything but the fish, and dog bisquits.

But I do think it is a stretch to get from:
Quote:
2. How much does a fish weigh if it weighs 1 pound plus half its own weight?
to:
Quote:
2. The fish weighs 2 pounds. Two halves make a whole, so if the fish’s total weight is the sum of 1 pound and a half the total weight, the other half must also be 1 pound.
On the original information.

Thanks for the quiz, Bump....

I got the fish right and even Wyoming and Barbie, Atlantic of course, but not the store or the last one. Good work, Bump.
I got the fish this way: Let x be the weight of the fish (it would have been easier to let x be one half the fish's weight, maybe). Then 1+x/2=x or 1=x-x/2 . Then 1 = x(1-1/2), i.e., 1= x/2 and so, voilà, x=2 Boy my algebra is rusty!
