I would advise you to NOT be afraid to use darker, bolder colors on the walls. All the light colors and pastels the previous owner used really make the place look milquetoasty.
Even if it's just one accent wall.

I've been looking at off-white walls and white woodwork here at the apartment house for almost 25 years now. Believe me, I'm looking forward to painting some COLOR on the walls!!
