HA! That's the same as mine was! I remember being so proud of having a car that was the exact same age as me.

First Car

1978 Civic "Hondamatic" - Sliding vinyl roof and a rosewood steering wheel! Bought it at a yard sale for $50 and pulled it home behind my dad's truck!

First one I got to drive was a 1960 Ford Falcon stationwagon. First one I owned was a 64 Sunbeam Alpine Mark IV. It was 1971 when I bought it and drove it around southern California. I felt at least twice as cool as I was

This is not the car, but is one of the same year and model:

Gotta chime in on this one. My first was a '74 Camaro. Bought used (22,000 miles) in '78 for $3,000. My mom found it in the paper and talked the seller down $500 before I even knew the car existed! What a woman!

Got 13 mpg with a tail wind. Rear end washed out when I drove the hard left overpass over the highway near work. Was LOUSY in the New England winters, even with its now-banned studded snows. Got stuck A LOT (kept shovel in back seat). Cassette deck (with auto-reverse!! wow!) which ate my Barry Manilow Greatest Hits tape (a blessing in disguise). Black vinyl seats which were lotza fun to sit on after a day at the beach. A/C = roll down the windows and drive fast. Horrendous blind spot in right rear (right side mirror was unadjustable). Back window had a leak (had to leave rag to absorb the water) which caused frost on the inside of windshield in winter (used credit card to scrape it off). Directional lever snapped off - had to heat inside with defroster. White vinyl roof that I cleaned with Comet cleanser and a scrub brush. Royal blue - loved that color.

Drove it for 8 years. Was practically in tears when I sold it and watched it drive away.

Great inexepensive idea !!! I haven't used my stem remover in 3 years so I doubt I could find it if needed. I last used it on a BMW... had to explain to the owner that driving way too fast and almost causing accidents on the highway will sometimes make your tires go flat... I don't think he understood the cause and effect though, just kept mumbling the "F" word

Bumper, please add Ford Galaxie 500 to your list. Not that that was my first car, or anything. In fact I never even had one. But a friend in college did. Sky blue. We called it The Love Tractor (after a short-lived college/indy group of the time, I believe -- now there's a group named after the car!) and we drove it from Denver to Golden to take the ever popular "short tour" at the Coors brewery. (Why in the world they put the quick exit out to the bar and the courtesy beverages a few steps into the facilities tour I could never understand.) The owner used to smile patiently as people in economy cars passed him going downhill, biding his time until he passed them again going uphill.
