Xel-Ha from Mayan Palace? and buses at Mayan?

Hi all, we're going to Mayan Palace in 2 days! Can't wait! We loved Xel-Ha last time we went but we want to skip the Tulum part of the trip. In order to do that we have to find our own way to get to Xel-Ha.

I've read the previous posts and many said the collectivo and buses are okay. But I wasn't sure what to do from Mayan Palace which is between Cancun and PDC. So I'm wondering if it would be best to go to Cancun or PDC first and then try to get to Xel-Ha from there.

I've heard that getting a bus from Mayan Palace is hard because there is no bus stop and you just have to wave the guy down.

Also does anyone know how much we should try to get a cab to PDC from Mayan Palace for if its just two of us? People said five dollars but I heard ten too. I'm not good at haggling but I'll try.

Has anyone hear used the Playa deal card? It sounds good but I'd love some feedback on it!

I guess that's it for all my questions! Thanks in advance! Take care!

Kori

Taxi price zones are posted downtown across from the bus station. Hotel desk should be able to tell you also. My friends paid 70 pesos from Playa to the Palace in April (and remember, no tip needed unless they wait or schlep a lot of bags for you). Catching a bus is no problem, even after dark. Just keep waving and somebody will stop. 20 pesos to Playa; it's part of the adventure.

Thanks ranchhand! I found the price zones online and it was definately a big help! I read that people tried to bargin to get the cabs for $5 to PDC from Mayan Palace but the rates say it was close to $15. Can people really haggle and get them down to $5? The bus should be an adventure! But I think I can handle it. Its the haggling I'm not so good at.

Does anyone have any advice about getting to Xel-ha or should I just pay the $$ and go on the tour to Tulum too? We kind of wanted to avoid it though bc we did it before and wished we had more time at Xel-ha. But I haven't any tours that go there without Tulum.

Empty cabs returning to Playa from the airport or Cancun will also stop at the Palace parada. 50 pesos is usually enough to get you a ride. Take a collectivo to Xel-ha or Tulum. They line up on Calle 2 behind the police station, between 15th and 20th. No schedule, they leave whenever they have a load.

Great info on the busses and taxis from the Palace.

We'll be there in September. I'll be checking back for your report on how the Mayan Palce was. Hopefully their construction projects won't bother you (or us) too much.

This site has them. Its pretty good.

I have to admit I'm a little scared of Mayan after all the bad reviews on tripadvisor. But we own there and it was beautiful when we went on the timeshare trip. My best friend stayed there a year ago and liked it. Now remember a year ago it just opened so it has to have improved. I think the only bad things that I've heard that seem consistant are about not being able to swim in the ocean and the humidity.

Junior do you own there or are you just visiting?

Thanks again Ranchhand! Take care!

kanniballi,

I'm sorry but I had to remove the link that you put up as posts containing links to providers of goods or services which are also offered by this website must be removed.

Please feel free to share that link with Junior08 in a private message though.

Junior & Kanniballi--------We're going down in Feb & will be staying at the Mayan Palace, so please be sure to post a trip report when you get back. We have people staying in our cottage this weekend that were there a year ago & stayed in town for 3 days, then went to the Mayan Palace, they said if they go back they would definately stay there again as opposed to in PDC,even with the construction, bad beach, ect which has been posted/complained about on some of the threads. I guess each person has their own idea of good & bad. have a great trip

Kanniballi - Sorry about that, I lost this thread for awhile. No we don't own there. Just "sub-leasing" from an owner we know. We've read some bad (Internet) press on the place recently too. It seemed like most of it regarded the high pressure that comes with about any time share sale. Most tof the folks didn't seem too bothered by the construction anyway.

birdman - I'll be sure to post a report. Wish I was writing it already!

I was planing on booking a trip to xel-ha from my hotel, the last time we did the xel-ha/Tulum trip fron cancun, we decided to stay at xel-ha and skip Tulum, and it was no problem, the bus took us to Xel-ha first and then took whoever wanted to go to Tulum and then came back for all the people that stayed at xel-ha.
