Take your fly rod - at least an 10 weight. Find an area of beach to the north of Playa or south of Playacar. Early morning & toward sunset, I've seen "bones" and tarpon working the shore line.
Also saw a guy standing waist deep water with a school of (what looked like) Jack Cravel around him. He was tossing out pieces of hot dog or something. you could have tossed a fly or a spoon in the school & caught a fish...
BTW...I'll have my 10 wt with me in April...
