Best Place in Mexico- AFTER PDC Natch!
So- where have you been that even comes close to being as great a holiday destination as PDC, anywhere in Mexico- or heck- even beyond?
I would say Zihuantanejo/Ixtapa (in the background in my avatar). We were there last winter for a week and loved it. Nice fishing village atmosphere, not crowded, GORGEOUS beaches for the Pacific coast, lots of great restaurants. You can surf there and the mountains are beautiful of course...that is one thing I really miss in Mayan Riviera. We have never gone anywhere 'tropical' except for Mexico but would love to go to Cuba someday? Anyone who has been to Cuba have any comparisons for me? I would love to see Havana and especially before Communisn falls, but I owrry about the food quality and also the weather- only 23 degrees Celcius for a high in January? Brrrr! |

I could live in Oaxaca with no problem at all. The capital city and the surrounding pueblos provide enough exploring for a lifetime. Add to that the coastal towns of Puerto Escondido and Puerto Angel, and I'm a happy camper

St. John, USVI for sure...but I think I can "struggle through" living in PDC for the next 5 years or so. Moving in October!!!!!
I know you were looking for places in Mexico, but the only other place I have been (yet) is Acapulco. Don't go. Last edited by Michele; 08-18-2004 at 05:25 PM.. |

Central Mexico
We love to travel through the central area of Mexico. Areas like Queretaro, Guanajuato, Patzcuero and Zacatecas are under-touristed and full of art, history and friendly people. Food is top notch and the prices are low.
Of course, I have to throw a vote in for laid-back Puerto Morelos too! Last edited by AlmaLibre; 08-18-2004 at 05:02 PM.. |

Thanks Jah. We usually have to buy packages to those 'glitzy' places unfortunately- a package to the touristy places is much cheaper than buying airfare separately and then booking a hotel and transportation on your own. But it can be done I know, I just have to stop being so cheap! Someday I would like to get to P.E.

Cayman was nice, the beaches were beautiful, the sand was the same as in Playa, the water just as turquoise and beautiful. Lots of great snorkeling. We had a friend living there, so were at an advantage as far as expenses, but things were MUCH more expensive there.
