Prolly they just didn't have the funds to follow the law and figured, eh, what the heck -- it's only children, the elderly, asthma sufferers, and the forests and waterways of a dozen or so states, let's just go ahead and "illegally release massive amounts of air pollutants for years."

Yeah, big business is on our side when it comes to the environment! You betcha!

Below is a list of the citizen plaintiffs as described in the DOJ statement here who joined the US Department of Justice in this action. I only wish we would have acted sooner to prevent more of this pollution earlier. Even a $4.6B judgement is just a drop in the bucket compared to the onslaught of unnecessary pollution and destruction caused by big corporations seeking to maximize their profits. I believe we must do much more, more quickly in order to better preserve our environment for the benefit and enjoyment of our children.

I recommend each of us consider supporting environmental groups who work so diligently to act on our behalf in cases like this where each of us are too small to accomplish much on our own..but combined in the strength of a group acting together, we can take on even the largest corporations who are recklessly spewing dangerous chemicals into our air and our water and force them to stop. These companies can do better with just a little less profit...we must insist they do.

IMO, this would be the very finest example of citizen patriotism..working together to protect and preserve our country's beautiful and important natural resources for the benefit and enjoyment of our children.

Other Plaintiffs
The following eight states joined as plaintiffs in the case: New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maryland, and Rhode Island.

The following citizen groups also joined as plaintiffs: Natural Resources Defense Council, National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club,United States Public Interest Research Group, Izaak Walton League of America, Ohio Citizen Action, Citizens Action Coalition of Indiana, Hoosier Environmental Council, Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, West Virginia Environmental Council, Clean Air Council, Indiana Wildlife Federation, and the League of Ohio Sportsmen.
