Club Paraiso Maya -Escape Paraiso Maya - Azul Hotel

After some investigation I have determined that the Azul Hotel & Beach Resort, was formerly the Escape Paraiso Maya resort, and before that the Club Paraiso Maya.
Does anyone out there know anything about these properties???

Marley- I have been checking around for an alternative resort then what I currently have. I believe the Azul hotel is part of karismahotels.com. Used to be the El Dorado. Check out their website. I have been inquiring about it with their customer service rep. If you find out anything good, bad or indifferent please email me as well. Linnea

I've been looking into this as well, it kind of peaked my interest. Apparently the Paraiso Maya which is what the hotel was before(not the El Dorado, both are still around) is under going renovations and will open up in the beginning of November as the Azul hotel under the Karisma chain.
As stated previously anything more found out, pass it on.

It has my interest as well. Can anyone comment in general on the Karisma chain or what the Paraiso Maya was like prior to this reincarnation -- good beach, nice facility etc? I never looked at the el dorado b/c we are traveling with childrens.

FYI- I called the reservation line for Karisma and spoke to a completely unhelpful agent. "From what they tell us, this is a brand new property" . . "I only know what they tell us and they tell us the property is new" I'm not sure who "they is" if she is supposed to be the reservation agent for Karisma. There still is no inventory for the property, so while they have rate information on the website, they are not accepting reservations. All she had was what is already on the Karsima website. If it is a refurbishment of the Club Paraiso Maya it sounds from reviews I have read that they have alot of owrk to do. If anyone is down that way and can give a report, it would be great.

I called Karisma and spoke to a completely unhelpful agent again today. I asked what day of the month March 4 was and she said she didn't know. I said, "your in reservations and you don't have a calendar?"

I now have on hold two weeks to go to the Spa it is in Playa, It would be in March as I think I am unable to go in January due to work that I have missed for a medical reason. It is on hold now until tomorrow. PLEASE, if anyone knows anything write me back.

It is all-inclusive, 98$ per day but adults only, does that mean that it is all honey mooner? I will be by myself now and hope that this is a place I can find someone to at least talk to.

Well....

The Azul used to be Club Paraiso Maya, which did receive very poor reviews.

The Azul will now be owned and run by the Karisma chain, which does a very nice job with the El Dorado Royale. I honestly believe that they will take this place and totally spruce it up...lots of new "stuff". However, proof is in the pudding...we'll have to see what the reviews say when it opens in November. But since every new resort has it's grand opening flaws, this one should be no different. I don't think I'd personally give it a shot until after the new year.

It is a very small, intimate resort, 104 rooms and they are considering it "boutique hotel".

The beach is very nice in this area, it's about 20 minutes north of Playa.

It is available to be booked by certain companies, I have priced it for a few people already.

We seem to be leaning more towards this hotel, reading up on it it does seem promising. We'd be heading down to the area the last week of November going into December.
If we do end up booking there, I'll definitely fill everyone in on the place.
Keep ya posted

tell me about it, wish i'd booked there but majority overruled , if it was just the 2 of us probably would have gone there but others joining us were leery about picking a place that was re-opening so close to our vacation time. guess they didn't want to take the chance in case it didn't open on time. oh well maybe another time
