Gringo Dave's is closed

We very much enjoyed a meal there (on the beach at Tulum) on Thursday August 12th (3rd day of our vacation). Great food, location, ambiance.

We returned yesterday (Sunday August 22nd) for a repeat. And it was closed. Apparently permanently. We talked to someone (on the other side of the locked gates). He said the land owner was going to develop it into something else (I guess Dave didn't own the property).

I hope what is done there is as good as Gringo Dave's.

Gringo Dave's

We had exactly the opposite experience in July. Terrible food, service spread too thin and the flies were everywhere.

Must have gone downhill since December. We had a delicious fried wahoo sandwich and the best guacamole of the trip there, and spent a good deal of time hanging out in the hammocks. No flies noticed.
Too bad....

Gringo Daves

Wasn't a second Gringo Dave's opened recently in Puerto Aventuras?? I wonder if that is still open. Not the same atmosphere, obviously.

I was surprised too since I had heard so many good things. Went many other places that made up for it.

We went to Gringo Daves In Tulum while we were there. It was close but one of the papers here has it now at Puerto Aventuras. We are going to check it out. We had nothing but great things to say about it the two times we went to it last year. Great service Great Food in fact we got to pick our lobsters from some locals who were bringing them up from the beach as we arrived.

Gotta chime in here because Delmy and I had Suzeq's experience, too, and that was a year ago or more. I got 5 ants for free as part of my margarita (well down in the mix) during a dining experience that went from a bit rough at the start to comically bad by the time it was over. We were similarly surprised, but there it is!

Er, was!

Ants!

Now, there's some roughage for you. There's so many other great places to eat around that there's no reason to be too sad. In many of the places we went the food and service was the best we've experienced anywhere including the states.

ants=protein, could have been part of the new Atkins diet. Did they charge you extra?

The service wasnt the issue...the scenery was...the food was the best we had while in the area..........there is good reason to be sad....it was a highlight ...a must do again and again....it was the memories of the atmosphere and the beauty and the squid.....not sure what roughage meant....maybe its a southern thing?

My sentiments exactly! Sure there are plenty of other great places but we thought that spot was extra special.

I can understand that. We have our special places too. Hopefully you'll find something else just as special and make a new memory.
