Hummers....
NO, not that kind!!
Were talkin' BIRDS here.......Hummingbirds. Went out and took a few Hummer Photos, posted them online. If you'd like to take a look, they are at... WWW.Pbase.com/rixx/hummers Don't be too critical....those little f##ck$$ sure are FAST. I took a BUNCH of shots, only to discover photos of EMPTY feeders! They flew off..that QUICK. Good thing I'm using digital!! Rixx |

Rixx - I got a bunch of photos very similar to yours last year at our cottage. You have to be very very patient to get them - the least little movement and they're off! This year it seems we only have 2 females (although there was a male very early in the season) - they constantly seem to battle over the feeder - I think they must be territorial.

I KNOW..I KNOW !! Or finding out, anyway!
They are extremely territorial!
It's really rare to ever see more than 1 hummer on a feeder at a time. I have had 2 Male Anna's get into a big tussle, fighting big-time. One ran the other backwards into a wall. It stunned him, and was laying on the ground right outside my Kitchen window. The other hummer starting attacking him on the ground. Using his beak as a weapon, aiming for the injured ones eyes. I had time to go out, and pick the hurt one up. The other one was still buzzin' right next to my head. Shooed him off, open my hand, and the injured one took off. A little wobbly, but he made it. Others have been found impaled on each other, beaks actually stuck in each other. Rixx |

Nope...
Critter,
I only have 6 feeders in my yard. What you saw was just a portion of the feeders Beatty has out. People come from all over the world to see the Hummers. It's about 15 miles or so from the Mexican border. Right on the edge of the migration, it's as far north as some of them travel. Especially the White Earred amd Violet Crowned, it's the ONLY place in the U.S. to see them. Rixx |

East of the Mississippi...
There is only 1 type hummer, in the Summer. The Ruby-Throated. Other than the ones flying by on their migration. Which isn't many, and they won't stay more than a few days.
WEST is BEST.......for hummers. Rixx |
