Barcelo Questions for Shammy & Others
Hi,
My friend and her husband are strongly considering staying at the Barcelo for 5 nights in January. They have never been to Mexico or an AI. I've done some research for them and was interested in receiving feedback from all of you Barcelo-aholics. I'd like to know how the food is, which rooms/buildings are preferable, how many nights of a la cartes they get for a 5 night stay, what kind of beer they serve, how noisy the rooms near the disco are, etc. Any other tips or information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! P.S. Shammy -- I know you wrote a review, but I couldn't find it. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks! |

Hey why not go to the Barcelo Board where all the experts are, not just a few like my self, Shammy and Tappy there are loads of us. The www.unofficial-barcelo-maya.com is what got me to go to Barcelo in the first place, and I am very grateful for the site. I am now on going on my 3rd visit the first week in Sept and cant wait. Its the only resort I would have ever considered going to more then once. Buiding 3 and 4 are the best, the food is good and you wont find a better beach. The grounds are tropical and well layed out. See ya on the Barcelo Board

O tay....
I'd suggest you do as Pam said and visit the Barcelo site. SO much info there about this resort. But.... Building 1 is the furthest from the disco and the theater. Buildings 2 and 3 are in front of one of the pools. Bulding 3 has direct access to the main drag that leads to the theater. Building 4 is in front of the other pool. Building 5 is closest to the disco. The disco noise will be more bothersome than that of the theater because it goes on until 2AM. Having said that, I have stayed in building 5 and didn't hear a thing from the disco (maybe cause I was there? ) and I have stayed in building 3 and heard nothing from the theater OR the disco. When in building 3, I was there with my kids and we were back in the room by 10ish every night, the evening show still in progress. Granted, the balcony door was closed and the air on.But I do know people who have been bothered by noise with the door closed and air on while in building 2, 3, 4 AND 5, form either the theater or the disco. It really just depends on how sensitive you are to noise. I am very yet it just didn't seem to bother me, I don't even think I heard it. To be honest, most of the time, one is SO extremely tired from sun and fun that once your head hits the pillow...buh bye! Rooms.... Rooms 1-12 on any floor, in any building will have the best views. They face the pool and beach. Rooms 1 and 12 will have double size balconies with hammocks as they are next to junior suites (rooms 2 and 11). Food... Too personal to judge. I personally had no issues with food during any of my visits. I am not easy to please either. I always found something (more than one thing too!) that I liked and was very satisfied with the offerings and selection. But there are some picky people out there and my taste is not their taste so....... You get 1 ala carte coupon for 5 nights. 2 for 7 nights. There is Corona on tap and something else, Modelo I think, in the mini fridge. Just had a Modelo while on vaca last week...it was yummy even though I more of a margarita drinker. But at $14 a pop for a tiny marg that had too much everything except tequila at the Ritz Carlton...I'll take beer thank you. Ok, that's my mini review. My other one is someplace over on the Barcelo board!
