Room? IB Quetzal? Snorkeling?DolphinSwim?

Looking for room suggestions for the IB Quetzal for HM couple? Any other info on hotel would be appreciated? or even ideas for snorkeling or dolphin swim? thanks. Do you suggest white vans, taxi, or what to go into town? Sorry is this playacar or playadelcarmen...or are these the same place? As you can see i don't know much about this area?

Quetzal

I stayed at ther Quetzal last year. It is located in Playacar, which is simular to an upscale subdivision here. There are several resorts and condos, some private homes, a golf course, and a shopping center. It is within walking distance of Playa del Carmen. I have stayed in Playacar 3 times, and I love it. The Quetzal is a great resort, just request a room toward the beach. We were given a room about as far from the beach as you can get, and it was a long walk. I just returned from the Gala next door, and I did not enjoy it nearly as well as the Quetzal. We went to Xel-ha one day and swam with the dolphins. If you are going to do it, I would suggest booking on-line to guarantee a spot because they fill fast. If you are going to Tulum or Xel-ha it is about $40 each way. We took a cab to Playa del Carmen, just tello the driver to take you to the Collectivos. We took the Collectivo to the entrance of Xel-ha. On the return trip we got lucky and flagged down a collectivo back. The total cost was $20 for the two of us. The cab is $4, and Collectivo is $6 each. I did not want to swim with the dolphins, but my wife wouldn't do it if I didn't. I really enjoyed it, much to my suprise.
You have got to visit the beach on the other side of the Gala beside you. It is about as private as you get in such a populated resort area. My wife and I were there everyday. It is about a 1/4 mile of undeveloped beachfront.
Beware if you go all the way to the far point, as we did one day, you may run across nude europeans.
If you drink, try the Mojitos at the Quetzal, you'll be hooked!
Enjoy your trip, Good Luck!!
