A choice they may later regret in life. When I was in college (and old enough to know better) I spent 8 weeks traveling through Europe and than a semester in school in York (northern England). I am embarrassed to tell you the number of times we ate at McDonalds and Pizza Hut.

Now my wife and I talk about trying to find the money to spend 2 - 3 weeks in Europe just eating our way from place to place.

If only...

As James mentioned, the long awaited opening of Sams has finally arrived! Stacy J. here and I've got the scoop along with some pics.

Fresh Milk Only Minutes Away!
Last Friday, August 27th, was the official grand opening of Sams Club in Playa. According to General Manager Adrian Solano the day was a grand sucess. The 230 employees managed to pull off the top opening sales of any other Sams in Mexico this year. More than 5,000 ecstatic locals flashed their Sams Club Cards and spent over 2.5 million pesos. In addition, more than 200 new members were given the rite to passage by forking up the $30 US annual fee. I know most locals will agree that this is a small price to pay to have imported cheese and fresh milk only minutes away.
You may be wondering what's so exciting about a Sams Club? Well, Playa locals have been anticipating this event for some time now and everyone has their reasons for being excited about Sams. Imagine, my boyfriend Eric used to drive to Sams in Cancun just to get a gallon of milk and some Old Amsterdam cheese.! Of course it would be half gone before he got home. Everyone has their reasons for being excited about Sams. Per and Lena of Babes were there checking out how much they can save with buying bulk spice. Personally, I'm excited about not having to deal with the Cancun traffiic. Seriously, its bad-serious lack of civil engineering!
Tourists may be a bit miffed to see (if they can ever find it) a Sams in Playa del Carmen but locals couldn't be more excited about the new convienience. I know I can speak for most when I say thank you Sam for bringing your Club to Playa del Carmen. May your greeter always have a smile. May your lines always be long. (except when I need something quick) And finally, may you always be stocked with fresh milk!

You can see the gallery of shots here.

Looks just like all the Sam's Clubs here in the states... only difference seems to be that the signs are in Spanish rather than English.

Anyone browsing the Sam’s club slide show is certifiable (like me).

…..and Denise. Your comments also apply to the Sam’s in LA.

I once ate at a Mcdonalds in Australia, it deffinetlyu wasn't the same as in the US. The hamburgers tasted alot more gamey then what I'm used to here. We were told that they sometimes use kangaroo for their hamburger. I was hopping mad about that not knowing wether they were using real meat instead of something that is like meat.
Kangaroo isn't 'real meat'?
Man you would hate to have to eat at my house, last night we had a great venison roast for supper, hunted and killed by my own dear husband.
I find American burgers taste TERRIBLE compared to ours up here, I read that it was because we have grain fed beef and you guys feed yours corn? Not sure if that it true or not.

And there was a story last year in Edmonton, Alberta about a Chinese buffet restaurant...police were tipped off and when they searched the freezer they found frozen coyote carcasses...they even had a pic of them in the paper.

Anyway to answer the OP- I think it is likely a good thing for the locals (the Sam's club) but globalism is a very controversial topic...some say it is good, some say it is bad. I lean toward bad myself.

Guinea pigs is staple food and a delicacy in the Andes, where you can buy them in markets alive, skinned or roasted. In the Catholic cathedral in the old Inca capital of Cuzco, there's a famous huge mural of Jesus's last supper where he and the disciples feast on guinea pigs - sometimes you have to make some small changes to make the pagans relate, eh? A bit off topic, I know; I just came to think about it...

Well then you are fairly adventurous- what is the issue about a little kangaroo meat in a burger?

I don't know if they still serve it, but Chino Latino, a restaurant in Uptown Minneapolis, used to serve guinea pig, but you had to ask for it specially - it wasn't on the menu. Also, they sometimes serve rabbit tacos.

And did you notice that Stogey was "hopping" mad after thinking he ate kangaroo. Bumper you're the grammar guy there must be something that describes that. Or like "I can't stand sitting".
And Michael I too must be certifiable as I looked at the pictures. Also emailed the report and pic site to my sister-in-law who spends couple months a year on Cozumel with her daughter who lives there full time. Ahhhhh! to be so lucky.

I don't have a problem with other cultures eating different types of meat or food in general. I think it's just a disclosure issue--TELL me what I'm eating before I eat it!!
