Just arrived here, need a little help!

Hi All

We´ve just arrived at Playa and are staying in temporary accomodation (ie expensive hotel). We did as much research as possible before arriving but are are having difficulty finding a one-bedroom appartment to rent long-term circa US$500 per month.

We´ve tried the following agents:
Starcondos
Siete Aluxes
MexicoRealty

If anyone knows of any appartments up for rent or has contact details for other agencies that would me most appreciated.

Thanks Playa folk

Richard

Richard, where are you guys staying right now? Maybe we can at least get you into a cheap efficiency apt. temporarily while you are looking.

Did you try the classifieds at playamayanews.com?

This seems to be the problem I'm running into trying to find a furnished 2 bedroom for long-term starting late Nov.

I may have to start looking at Cancun area, or Cozumel, or Isla, I dunno. What happened, did everybody and their brother suddenly inhabit Playa?

Playa del Carmen has been the landlords' market for a long time and most often a place is not empty long enough for the landlord to bother with anything else but a sign on the door saying SE RENTA. Finding a place to live here most often involve alot of legwork and asking everyone you meet (locals) if they know of a place. Connections, legwork and fluke is the answer here, not 'Let your fingers do the walking".

we saw several places for rent walking around closer to 307 or in between 307 and 5th....you just have to walk around and keep your eyes open....And be lucky...Like Anna Said....

My advice, stay away from siete aluxes, got extremely ripped off when I stayed in playa going to language school. Things I was promised, tv, ac, cooking capabilities. When I arrived, $200 more than promised, no tv, no cooking capabilities, and ac was broke. Thank goodness I loved playa and I'm very easy going, because what I was promised and what I got were 2 different things. The property manager was also not very friendly. OH well, what are you going to do. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Ginger wrote: "What happened, did everybody and their brother suddenly inhabit Playa?" The answer is, "Yes, pretty much".

We rent our 2 bedroom/1 bathroom condo 2 blocks west of 5th long term for 8000 pesos/month plus utilities, and our property manager has no problem keeping it occupied without advertising. I'm confident the new owners will have the same experience.

Nothing happened... It has always been hard to find nice housing in Playa, especially if you want it furnished and more 'Western' standards.

Monthly Rentals

Try the Las Iguana hotel across the street from the Porta Real. A freind of mine stayed in a little apartment behind the hotel for 4 months last year. I think the price was around the $500 your looking for. Nothing fancy, one main room with a kitchenett, and a bathroom. His was the end room and it was right across the road from the construction driveway of the new hotel. He is a early riser so the 6:30 am construction start didn't bother him but it was a little dusty.

Maybe you could become Susie's neighbor at Paamul after driving a travel trailer down there, or maybe you sold put that old Class C on the market too early

Too late! It's been sold. and it bought our Disney and Universal tickets, along with our gas and hotels all the way to Playa and back home. Guess it could have BEEN our hotel all the way to Playa, and then our home while there, but I think we would have killed each other all living in one room for six months!

Try Puerto Morelos?

You may want to consider Puerto Morelos..Great town..quiet & within 20 min of both Playa & Cancun.
