20th anniversay!!
My husband and I will be travelling to the Mayan Riviera for the 1st time this November. We are undecided about the resorts to stay at. We have a few choices ,they are the Riu Playacar, the Reef Coco Beach or the Cococabana. We are looking for quiet and romantic. This will be our 1st trip without the kids. It is our 20th anniversary. We would like a nice room. Great beach, disco (just in case). We only plan on going into PDC for shopping maybe once so I don't think location is an issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Charlie53, welcome and congratulations!! You have come to the right place. If you use the search function for these resorts, you will find a wealth of information from Forum Folks who have stayed in these and other resorts in the area. It can be a little overwhelming, but be patient and take your time. The people on this forum are very friendly and helpful. Do a little reading and post back if any of your questions have not been answered already. Happy reading!!

I think you should look into Barcelo Maya, has everything you are looking for. www.unofficial-barcelo-maya.com Its in the same price range as the ones you are looking at but a much nicer resort, in my opinion.

Robin is correct, an adults only AI would be the way to go as far as the quiet and romantic thing goes. But from the 3 resorts listed above that charlie said she is choosing from, all of the adults only resorts would be at least double those prices, if not more.
So...sticking with those 3....The Reef Coco Beach would probably be the quietest as it's a pretty small resort. They also have a very nice beach and the rooms are clean and neat (but nothing fancy). I don't think there's too might nightlife here but you're SO close to town at this hotel, that's your nightlife right there. The Copa is much larger property but also on an excellent beach. The food seems to be the big drawback though, many people just are not thrilled with the selection nor the quality. But recent reviews seem to be picking up a bit. I think it's a case of either you love it here, or you hate it. The Riu probably has the best food and service and a nice beach, although it is surrounded by hotels on each side, which gives the beach a more crowded feeling. I wouldn't describe the rooms at this hotel as "nice" though. They have many A/C problems and many also have a too funky smell to them. Not all the rooms smell some claim but mine sure did. They are dark with poor lighting..the stall shower that they have has no light in it at all. I wouldn't describe any of these places as"romantic" but romantic is more a state of being than it is a physical place. I think you could find that romantic feeling wherever you want it to be! ![]() |

Iam headed to PDC in 2 weeks to celebrate my 20th anniv also!! We are leaving the kids at home so we deceided to go to an adult only. Trying to pick a resort was verrrrrry hard, but we have chosen the Aventura. I know about the beach situation so we will not be surprised and we have had several friends stay there and loved it...We will have a great time anywhere because we do not ever get to go on trips w/out the kids and have never been to Mexico!!!!
