the beach in playa del carmen

I am thinking about visiting PDC for the coming weekend. But i have seen some reviews complainning about the beaches there - claiming that the water is not clear and there are weeds everywhere and you cannot expect the typical caribbean quality beach there, etc. Is this true? if so, is it seasonal? I am definitely not the AI mega-resort- type, so i was thinking of staying at a cute boutique hotel there and chill. For what i have read, PDC seems perfect except the beach quality issue....if anyone can tell me the accusation is true/ false, and maybe suggest a good spot for enjoying the crystal-clear carribeal beach (preferably in riviera) i'd much appreciate it!

Just got back from Playa a week ago (and I'm peeling, damn it) and the beach in front of my hotel was a tiny bit rocky at first, but lovely and sandy a few feet in. And warm and clear. I could have stayed in the water the whole time except for I would have gotten a 3rd degree sunburn.

Have been in Playa for ten days the beaches are OK. No weeds and the water Is clear. Just alot of people. The best beaches are In Tulum we spent five days there and we got to run around naked on the beaches becasue there was nobody on them.
South of the Hotel Zone.

I agree with Tommy, just look! Someone is trying to steer you totally wrong.

Just back from PDC! The beaches are beautiful! Occasional rocks and some seaweed. What do you expect from a beach? The water is clear, beautiful and so warm you could stay in forever. I hated having to leave. Full trip report to follow after the catch up of having to come back to reality.

The beaches in Playa and all down the coast are clean, and the water is warm and clear. Someone is either lying to keep you away or they are too picky to live.
