Car rental...Executive...
I know we just had a car rental thread but I have some more specific questions regarding Executive. I've been driving myself crazy deciding to rent our not and finally decided to do it and through Executive, we'll get the Tsuru. We'll bring the baby seat. Here's the plan:
We take the bus from the airport to Playa, taxi to hotel then Taxi to and from hotel while in Playa area (we're at Lafitte) Rent car for one day on Cozumel Pick up car rental in Playa for the stay in Tulum and return at the Cancun airport. I decided to get the liability insurance and decline the rest knowing we have the Mastercard rental insurance Okay, now the questions. When you reserve they give you total approximate charges. Then it says additional fees or surcharges may be applied at time of rental. We got a rate of 197 for 8 days. What has been your experience with this? We're you charged more than quoted? Can a spouse drive for free or do you have to pay the additional driver fee? I reserved a car for the day on Cozumel and got a rate of $8 for the day including the liability insurance. This has to be wrong right? What do you think they'll hit us with when we get there? The international pier is the pier that the playa ferry pulls up to, right? |

Answers to the first two questions (as I have not rented on Coz)
Executive has always charged my what they said they would. Rental rate has always included the two of us. I notice that you are planning a drop of at a different location. Make sure you have that clear and agreed with Executive. That can result in a hefty fee when I’ve done that in the US. I’ve never tried it in Mexico. Executive has in my experience always been good at answering e-mail and so if you need any information from them, you can get it. |

Actually, the International pier isn't the ferry peir, that's the Punta Langosta pier. The International Pier is one of the cruise ship piers, it's about 10 minutes south of the ferry pier, you'd need to take a cab to it. The $8 quoted is definately a mistake. We've rented a VW on Coz before, costed us $45 for the day with all the taxes included. Definately worth it to see the whole island, the backside is amazing. Totally uninhabited beach, and some really cool little beach bars.

Yeah, the $8 for a car is a mistake, when I went to Cozumel, I got a mopped for $20 (down from 25 as my B&B owner recomended me).
I don't think is a good idea to return the car to the airport, it should be more expensive, but ask them about that option and weight it against the bus. |

Double checked that I can pick up the car in Playa and return at the Cancun airport for the $197 rate and they confirmed it as yes. Good deal I think. Got an another email confirming that the $8 rate is an error as I had strongly suspected, looks like they are on it! Cancelled the Cozumel car because I think I had the wrong pickup point anyway. I'll rebook it later. Thanks for the info, y'all are swell!
