Questions about El Dorado Royale
I've heard the shower and jacuzzi water is salty and often has a "sewage" smell to it? For those who have been there, is this true? Also, is it possible to walk along the beach and find an area that isn't too rocky?
Thanks for your feedback! |

PLENTY of nice sandy beach area onsite to place your lounger directly into the calm, cool ocean water and layout to your heart's delight with the slight lapping of the ocean around you...Could NEVER have done that anywhere else we have stayed. Plus, there are several very nice pools at your disposal - we liked the one directly behind the beach cabana/palapa area adjacent to the Healthy Bar (Smoothies of all types and fresh fruit plates)... The water does have a mineral "nose" to it at times, if you like, but so have the places we were in while in Cancun and Playa for that matter....and each of those were top notch resorts...The room jacuzzi has a nice assortment of bubble bath for you to use. We were all over the resort and didn't notice a strong smell at all, as others have reported... |

Thanks for the feedback so far.
Do you know how the EDR compares to the Riu Palace and the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo? I'm trying to decide on one of the resorts for my honeymoon. At first I had my mind set on the EDR because of the casitas, but after reading all of the bad reviews, I've become so confused.... How do they compare in terms of 1) food 2) beach 3) transportation to PDC/Cancun 4) Power/water outages 5)Crowdedness? 6) overall value Thanks again! |

I'm going through the same dilemma in chosing an AI for my honeymoon. We stayed in PDC last time at the Playa Maya and LOVED it, but for our honeymoon we're looking for a chance to be completely lazy and pampered (and I refuse to apologize for it).
Anyhow, I digress... I've gone to just about every AI website and read millions of reviews and even though I've heard the occasional sketchy review about EDR, it would seem that the style of the resort, the amenities, the no kids thing, the price, the food and the casitas best match what we're looking for. So, I'm about to take the plunge and book EDR. Sorry for the rambling! P.S. We're working with Shammy and she's been AWESOME so far! You ask one question and get 2 e-mail pages worth of opinions, which is just what we need during this confusing process. ![]() |

EDR was not at all crowded feeling. In fact, I had no problem getting a palapa at the beach in the afternoon. They also have these bed like things out by the pool and the beach. Those can be more difficult to get though. The food was some of the best I've had at an AI. There is only a buffet for breakfast, but even then you have the option of ordering off a menu. The steak house(which is on the beach) is also open for lunch so you have a much better beachside dining option than you have at most AIs.

We thought the water was a little salty...but probably becuase it was run through a water softener. Not bad, though. See our trip report we just postedabout the EDR: http://playadelcarmeninfo.com/playa-...ead.php?t=9646
Have a good time! |
