Viva Maya - Good or Bad
I am travelling in February 2005 with two kids (2yrs & 4yrs) and currently have the Viva Maya booked. However, several people have said that this is only a 3 star hotel (many websites rate it 4 stars) and that in the US it would be typical to a Red Roof Inn or Motel 6. Has anyone stayed here and what are your opinons on this hotel? Should I change to another resort, if so which one?

I stayed at the Riu Palace, which is actually next to this property. I walked up around the pool area one afternoon to look around. The beach is amazing there. I'd check out tripadvisor.com and read some reviews about the resort. You might find good ones and ofcourse horrible ones! LOL! But, they will help you make a decision.
Good Luck! |

The hotel rooms at Viva Maya and Viva Azteca are perfectly fine. Like a nice Marriott say. Not enough drawers for the four of you, I don't think - you might want to bring some extra hangers - the close is very big. You can see a Viva Maya hotel room if you go to www.vivaresorts.com and select viva maya and then select virtual tour and click on the hotel room picture on the lower left corner. The rooms are kind of on the large size to hold the two queen size bedsThey are not like Motel 6 rooms! Stick with Maya. It is nice. We've stayed at Azteca twice with our two kids twice. Maya's a little bit more lively. Both are nice if you have reasonable expectations. They're clean.
The beach and grounds are lovely. The food is fine; there is not fabulous gourmet food on the buffet, sorry (look at the price!) The staff people are nice. Announcements are made in Italian, Spanish, German and English, which is entertaining. Late night musical shows are in English - but with the ages of your kids, you probably won't be awake for them! Before you go, go to the Wyndham web site and sign up for wyndam by request- and then email your Wyndham number to the hotel - there will be a welcome gift with balloons when you arrive because you will sort of be a VIP (since you belong to the Wyndham frequent stay club). The kids will get a kick out the balloons. And you will earn some frequent stay points that will probably eventually be good for something... JJG |

Viva Maya rocks
jldaddy...jjg is telling the truth. We were at the Azteca in Jan 04, & found both hotels very nice. NOT like a motel 6!lol :p The Maya has a larger pool area,& many more offerings at the pool snack bar for lunch. Burgers, pasta, salads, nachos, etc. The kids will love it. Great beach and a mini-mall across the street with good prices on pareos, silver, cigars,& an ice cream shop! Also have an ATM there. You can also go over to the Azteca,I beleive,& check out their property. There is a great restaurant downtown, costs an extra 5$pp for dinner, but so worth it. Had a fabulous steak there & then you can enjoy checking out 5th Ave.Have a fabulous time in Playadise.
Let the sun shine.

mayas good
Just arrived back from mayas sister hotel the viva azteca which is a five minute walk away.
We went down to the maya several times during our stay. The maya is very plesant, much bigger than the azteca. The maya has apparently 'better children facilities' and most deffently better buffet resturant than the azteca. The hotel is nice and big with a large pool and pool bar/snaxbar. The beach is wonderful with beautiful turqoise clear seas. |
