It made me feel SOOOO good to .....

do a good deed today!!

After doing some grocery shopping, I found a man's wallet next to my car. When I got home, I looked up the name/address on the Net from his license, called the owner, and then drove it over to their place to deliver it back to the rightful owner. They were an elderly couple, and the wife gave me a BIG hug when I came in the door. Apparently the husband's pocket has torn, and that's how the wallet fell out. They had been "tearing the house apart" looking for it and were so appreciative to me.

It made me feel SO good to be able to do a good deed for a stranger and save them the hassle of cancelling/reordering credit cards, getting a new license, etc. I've been smiling ever since!!

Made me wonder....... do you have any "good deed" stories?? Either one you've done or one that's been done for you??

Thanks, Softy! It just absolutely made my day. And I got to meet their little dog, "Dilly", a miniature doberman. Dilly wasn't too glad her daddy's wallet got returned....she just ran around the kitchen yappin' her little head off at me!

Which reminds me of the song lyrics "Every morning there's a halo hanging on the corner of my girlfriend's four-post bed...."

I bet Karen hangs hers up too, one in awhile....

Karen, once I found an elderly man, or rather he found me. I was outside my house and this elderly man comes up to me and asks for some water and sits down on our lawn. I being concerned, starting asking some questions and soon realized that he did not know where he was. Not only that, he did not know his phone number, address or anything. He had alzheimers. I asked all sorts of things to get him home, but nothing worked so I had my husband call the police. But as we were waiting, I realized I hadn't asked his name and he quickly states his name complete with spelling his hard to spell last name. So I run in the house, look it up on the computer, and the address and phone pop up. I call the number and his wife answers, it the correct number. My husband and I drive the man home and tell my neighbor to tell the police, nevermind.

We get to his house and his wife who is Welsh is furious with him. It was now around 10pm and he had been missing since 1pm. He had missed a dinner they were supposed to attend, she went without him because he had done this so many times before. She didn't even call the police!! She was very appreciative that it was us instead of the police, I guess they had brought him home too.

The next day I went to the mall and I bought one of those ID bracelets and had his name, address, and phone number engrave on it. I drove it over there. He didn't recognize me or the story, the wife did and she helped me put the bracelet on him. That's it, never saw him again. Isn't that sad?

Hey, you guys..... I didn't tell my story to get pats on the head from you all (although I do appreciate it - thank you!). I told it to hear your stories in return! I love it when things happen in life which cause us to become "connected" to someone we don't know - even if just for a moment or two. For instance, when we had 4 hours to kill at Orlando's airport a few weeks ago before our flight home, David and Zach went off by themselves, as did I (lots of stores there to poke around in). At one point, I crouched down on the floor to rummage through my backpack for my inhaler. While still crouching down, I quickly took a couple of puffs on it. A man walked by, saw me and stopped, and with a bit of alarm in his voice said "Are you okay? Do you need some help??" I just said "No, I'm okay. Thanks!" That kind of thing hits a chord with me....that someone would react instantly like that to offer assistance to a total stranger.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just a big mush!

As for your halo references........ I don't think so!! If my halo makes an appearance, it's because I'm trying to polish off all the built-up tarnish on it!!

I did a good deed for a friend this weekend!
My good buddy Scott showed up at my house along with his sweetie Teri and our friend Slick....Scott started drinking Tequila shots and I had remembered what happend last time he drank shots like this...he ended up in the sack with Slick....I felt as if I had to do something very drastic....So I broke the bottle of Tequila to save him from the terror of Slick jumping him in the sack!!!

Yes, it's sad what that disease takes away... but what a beautiful thing you did!! Not only did you get him safely home that day, but just think.....who's to know how many times your gift of that bracelet has helped him and is still helping him find his way home??!! And what a great thing for your daughter to see her mother do too!

David lives in a condo complex, and recently he and another neighbor, Jim, assembled a media unit thing for a couple living a few units down the hall (one of those multi-shelved/multi-doored things that holds your TV, stereo, had bookshelves and such). The wife saw David in the laundry room and told him point blank "my husband's too stupid to assemble it". From what I can gather, both the husband and wife have some mental difficulties and basically bought something that was way over their heads to assemble. It took David and Jim two entire evenings to get it put together. One of those evenings David's son was with him and helped as best he could. I just thought it was great for Zachary to learn that this is the kind of thing you do sometimes.... help those who need it. A fabulous lesson to learn by seeing it in action.

Good deed Karen.
Not to long ago I helped my mom's roommate at the hospital
that didn't have any family for 3 weeks. I helped her with
things that a normal family would do when a loved one has gone through
major spinal surgery. It was natural for me.

I had something very similar happen to me one time. I was, of all things, sitting in a salon near my home, getting my nails done, when a little old man opened the door and walked in. He was completely out of place, and obviously confused, and my nail tech asked if she could help him. He explained that he was lost. Had walked from his home (where he'd lived for years) to the bank and couldn't remember which way to turn when he walked out. He knew his address and all, but didn't know how to get back to it, even though he was only a few blocks away. I asked him if he'd mind waiting a few minutes, and as soon as I was done, I would take him home, as it was on my way. We talked and I learned his wife had died some years before, and he had no family and was living on his own. As we were driving, he saw the grocery store, and realized that he had left his collapsible cart there and asked to be left there as he now realized where he was and knew his way from there. I hated to leave him, but he insisted, so I felt I should. When I arrived home, I called the village police and just let them know that he was out on his own... they had received an earlier call about him wandering around... we knew it had been him because his gloves were some bright color... purple maybe?... and the caller had pointed those out. I looked for him everywhere after that, but never could find him again. Wish I had known about the ID bracelets. I often wondered what had happened to the old fella...
