Jan's Sturgis Run
This large photo segment is from the 2004 Black Hills Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. Promised Cuff quite sometime ago that I'd post a few... better late than never! The last 8 photos in this series were taken of Jan on her latest motocycle in the park by our house.
Jimmy This first series was taken with Jan's Canon A40 (2mp camera). These are just a handful of the 600+ photos that she took: The following series was taken with Shari's Olympus (4mp camera - model unknown): Took the following 4 shots in the park just a day ago (mid Sep 2004) with the Canon G3 (4mp camera): Took the following 4 shots in the park just a day ago (mid Sep 2004) with the Olympus C-5060 (5mp camera):

WOW!
Thanks.... Great looking shots... Yes, I can see the bison as an issue for the bikers - however, I can't remember losing a biker to the bison - they're pretty well limited to certain areas ...too many fine people were lost to the growing deer numbers and from riding the Hills' roads late at night...Not that the deer aren't a problem during the day... Just glad so many get to go home safely and have a wonderful time while they're here... |

...and bison don't jump out in front of you like a deer.
Critter, if you noticed the photo of the helicopter, that'll haul you to the hospital if you still have a heartbeat. Jan was unaware when she took the shot that one of my customers was being airlifted to Rapid City in that very chopper. It was his first day at the event. He managed to crack a few ribs and bruise/slash his face pretty badly after catching the corner of a Wrangler when traffic suddenly came to a screeching halt and he couldn't negotiate his escape route. He had probably slowed down to about 55 when he made contact, so it was a serious accident but he just happened to be a lucky guy. The Deuce he was riding (probably Harley's best creation) was totaled. Jimmy |

I figured it was a down bike. You like the Deuce's? Never ridden one, just something about the looks that doesn't sit right with me.
I like most of the bikes I saw, including Jan's. Not to sure about the "s" shaped backbone choppers (3rd picture from the top) . Not sure I like the lines, although everyone seems to love them. |

Critter:
The Harley Deuce in it's original state is really kind of an ugly beast but potentially it's a great choice for someone who's looking to do a mild/personal custom because you don't have to discard as many components. The FXR looks very similar to the Deuce but instead of having the softail, it has shocks. As a stocker, the FXR looks more appealing, probably because it has that more traditional Harley look. Right out of the box, for the guy who doesn't tinker but wants that custom look, the Fatboy or the Road King are probably the preferred choices. I personally have no interest in riding anything on a stock frame. Quinn: You won't be a weenie for towing your bike. We're at least 800 miles closer to Sturgis than you, and you'd be amazed how many arrive in a trailer from here. While in the Black Hills area, Jan and her group averaged about 200-300 miles per day but they weren't about to waste 1300 miles getting out there and back. Having a trailer makes it all the more enjoyable. We're currently looking at a new enclosed trailer that'll comfortably accommodate 4 bikes. If they ever get that ferry running again between Tampa and Puerto Morelos, we'd like to bring some bikes down to Mexico. As for the Titan and similar bikes, I'm pretty much in agreement with you Quinn. My last two bikes were based on a Barry Cooney and Arlen Ness frame and I built them from the ground up. With the advent of true custom bikes being sold to the public now, there are a vast number of Harley clone motors (like S&S, etc.) that offer major improvements over an HD original. I've been looking at frames lately, trying to decide my next creation. This is a manufacturer that's kind of caught my eye. Jimmy Last edited by JimmyMN; 09-21-2004 at 06:26 PM. |

I must have taken to many jolts in my younger years on a hardtail, I prefer the old school look, but if I ever start ridding again it will probably be very close to stock, it will at least have a full suspension, my back can't take it anymore.
That bike still has the swayback look, but I like the way the tank is built into the frame. Are my eyes deceiving me or is that a shock spring assy behind the tranny? Who's frame? |

JimmyMN,
I saw a bike in a shop here in the Black Hills from Minnesota Custom Bike Works (or something similar)... We of course have a LOT of custom shops here in the Hills and in the Sturgis area...Some come and some go... I think Bourget made a couple of nice bikes this year that caught my eye...of course every manufacturer and customizer is in Sturgis... It would be really HARD to make up one's mind with the BUFFET of bikes available and on display... Was very saddened to hear of Indian Larry's fatal accident while we were in PdC...interesting guy and always a HOOT to chat with in Sturgis each year. Bourget My brother-in-law has an OCC bike... He is sitting on his - it's the red bike on the right. The OCC boys were there in Farmer's Branch filming at the Eleanor Shelby facility - they are going to make a Theme Bike from the Eleanor Shelby series... ![]() Indian Larry accident information: Indian Larry accident Or his site at: Indian Larry Last edited by cuffedlinks; 09-21-2004 at 05:19 PM. |

that is an amazing frame, I love those lines! I've never seen a tank in the frame before, very unique! We need more custom builders here in Canada... |
