Marriage Poll

Another thread got me thinking that long term marriages are not as rare as people think, but I could be wrong (like that would be a new thing).

So my question is how long have you been married to your partner (count time living together)

Women are saints aren't they. 31 in a couple of months here, and I like you don't know how she coped for so long, especially since I was gone for so long for so many periods (Navy).

I believe you need more options, Crit...

My 1st lasted 14 years, my second was five... can I count that as 19 years married? I've been on my own for 8 years now, and, at this rate, that condition may outlast the marriages!

I've been married 13 years and we are only in our late 30's.

I met my wife in college when I was 18 and she was 19. On October 14th of this year I will have been dating or married to my wife for 18 of my 36 years. We were just talking the other day about the fact that I am now at a point where I have known my wife for over half of my life. Seems odd to me (in a good way).

And like others have already stated, the only question is how and why my wife has put up with me for so long.

Fifteen years married this past June. 1 stepchild, 1 special needs child, 1 fairly high strung child, 6 houses, 4 cities, 3 dogs and not nearly enough vacations. In some ways I can hardly believe it's been that long; in other ways, I can hardly remember him not being around. But through thick and thin (and we've had plenty of thin) we still hold hands and we can always make each other laugh.

Been with David over 5 years now (that's 4 yrs/2 mos longer than I was married!). Living 45 miles apart has some advantages and disadvantages, but we see each other enough to get on each other's nerves now and then! Got engaged on my birthday in 2002. Wedding date set for sometime in 2019-2024. Or maybe never. We're both firm believers in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" David and I started dating just before my father died in 1999, and even though it was early in our relationship, he proved himself to have a strong shoulder for what were very rough times for me (estate hassles). I'm so lucky to have him in my life.

Do I vote twice? Been married two times, 1st 7 years, waited 9 years, then the 2nd 9 years so far. Took me 8 years before I asked my second wife. I voted once for 6 - 10 years, but I've been with my second for 17 years.

30 years as of a couple of weeks ago - Sept 7. Met Jackie on a blind date, and the rest is history. She must be blind, and deaf too. Anybody who will put up with me for 30 years cannot possibly be in possession of all their faculties. If I was a cynic, I'd say we stay together because we can't decide how to divvy up all the stuff we've collected in the last 30 years - including two cats - but I wouldn't dream of suggesting that. Wait a minute...now that I think of it...it was her idea to get two cats. H-m-m-m?
