Got one last year for the first time on the advice of my doctor. Was sickest I've ever been... never ever again. I'll take my chances.

Yikes, Denise! Bummer!! I didn't have any ill effects from it, although the nurse at the pharmacy told me to hang out in the store for 15 minutes before I left, just in case I had a bad reaction to it. Had images in my head of me passing out in front of the deodorant display!!

Every year...

My Asthma doc won't let me leave the office without one and I think he purposely schedules the bi-yearly check up for everyone in Oct/Nov so they have to get the shot. Never gotten sick from them. I have heard though from a co-worker that if you do it could be because the virus was already in your system.

I get it every year and I have never gotten sick from it.
Our company gives them free !!! So if it is free it is for me !!!
If you are allergic to eggs you will have a reaction to it (that is why they made you hang out for 15 mintues)- but you would know within a few mintues if you were going to have an adverse reation to it !

Your co-worker was right- you can get sick from it if you are already coming down with something.

John is diabetic, and my son Jorden has his heart condition, so our family is recommended to get them and gets them free. We also get pneumonocococcal vaccines for pnemonia as well. We just do it because Jorden and John are at a higher risk to get complications, so we figure better safe. However, guess we won't be getting them this year, since we'll be in Playa and not around when the shots come out and not around for flu season!

They're free!!!!

I get one every year - they're free here! But, I do a lot of travelling and being cooped up in an airplane for 6-7 hours many times is a great way to catch all sorts of interesting bugs. Never had any adverse reaction

I like Denise got one once (military used to make you take them) and got sicker than a dog. So every year after that I would say I was allergic to eggs. This was usually after having eggs for breakfast with the corpsman that was giving the shots

For the past 10 years I have gotten a flu shot every year except 2000. The first weekend of November that I was soooo sick! Fever, chills, sweating, vomiting, couldn't eat and couldn't drink and I was in bed for 3 days straight! It was horrible. I can't even remember why I didn't get a flu shot that year. My work bring in some workers from the Health Department and we pay $10 for our flu shots.

Also, it's a fact that getting a flu shot does not make you sick. That's an old wives tale. The shot that you get is made from inactive viruses so there's no way that shot can make you sick. More then likely you were exposed to someone with the virus before you got the shot. Your arm may be sore and red and you may have a low fever but that's about the only side effects from the flu shot.

It takes about two weeks for antibodies to develop in your body and provide protection against the flu so during that time you're still at risk for catching the virus and getting the flu shot won't protect you from other illness that sometimes feel like the flu.

It's a good precaution to take for everyone... no matter how healthy you are. It's also good idea to have your school aged kids and kids that go to daycare/homecare to get one too. With all the sickness and germs that kids spread... it's just a good idea!

I got it in the arm last year. I think dropping my drawers in the middle of Walgreen's might not have been appreciated by many. By some, perhaps, but not by many!!!
