Playa del Carmen Beach O-LIMP-XX, 2005
![]() IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!! We regret to announce that theScavenger Hunt portion of the games will unfortunately not be taking place as originally planned. The second day's activities will still go ahead as indicated below. Well friends, after a long wait, here we go. Let the games begin! Playa del Carmen Beach O-LIMP-XX I’ll wager a lot of you thought the inaugural edition of the Playa del Carmen Beach O-Limp-XX had died an unnatural and unlamented death. HA!! You wish!! No, faithful Forum Folk, this venture is alive and well, though still very much a work-in-progress. We had hoped to have our games officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee, but have found IOC President Jacques Rogge to be inflexible and totally unreasonable in his demands. He has consistently found ways to put roadblocks in our path. His stringent insistence on such things as rules and standards - notions which are obviously at odds with the concept of the PdCBO - has meant our competitions must proceed without the official sanction of the Olympic organization. HA! We don’t need no stinkin’ endorsement!! Even while the ultimately unsuccessful negotiations with the IOC were underway, work has gone on behind the scenes to ensure that the PdCBO would take place, despite the outcome of our efforts. Though there is still much to do, a lot has been accomplished. The games will take place over a period of two days, Monday & Tuesday, March 7 - 8, 2005. Day 1 of the PdCBO will consist of a Scavenger Hunt, in and around Playa del Carmen. It promises to be a memorable affair. We will get the day underway (not too early, since we are, after all, on vacation) with a get together at a venue yet to be finalized, where the game’s activities will be explained and locations and schedules provided, though that information will be made available beforehand. If DocLoch, or someone else of a medical persuasion shows up, mumbling something about mandatory drug testing,...I’d suggest you tell him what he can do with his little plastic cup, and I don’t think that’s the type of specimen he’s after. This project is in the talented hands of three of the forum’s most capable ladies; Squish, Denisea, and Tyramania. We are indeed pleased to have their participation. What an exciting combination! One wingnut, one certifiable lunatic, and a Forum Goddess. Larry, Moe, and Curly aren’t even in the same league as this trio. I can’t even begin to imagine in which direction this programme will go, but I’m confident you can rest assured it will be anything but dull. You will be hearing more from these delightful and inventive ladies. Day 2 will consist of the “Non-Athletic” events, during the day. Since the previous day’s activities may well leave our participants somewhat “under the weather”, or at the very least, tired, we don’t anticipate starting until the afternoon. A separate thread will be posted to describe the competitions we anticipate conducting, and to provide for “Athletes” to sign up. Mrs. Bumper and I will be responsible for this area of the games. A Trivia Contest will be held after the supper break, featuring questions taken from information off the PlayaInfo forum, as well as queries drawn from the mainstream Olympic Games. Two well-known Forum Friends, Sun Seeker (Tommy) and Greek2Me (Donna), have graciously agreed to assume the task of overseeing this competition. I’m sure you’re all familiar with this couple, so you have some idea of what to expect. With Donna’s insight, and Tommy’s off-the-wall approach...expect anything! I’m certain you’ll be seeing more from them as time goes on. That's it for today, friends. Keep your eye on the forum for more information in a day or two, and on an on-going basis from now on. 174 days until Opening Ceremonies for the Playa del Carmen Beach O-LIMP-XX. Are you in training yet?

We just checked Brooks' schedule and he has to work too... deciding on whether to take vacation or "cough, cough" get sick.
![]() What's the general concensus? Go for the whole week (or longer), or come home on Wednesday? |
