It very much depends on how much your into ruins and history. Tulum is a great introduction to the Mayan world and it can be done in half a day if you want. It's small and close by. And a spectacular setting. Chichen is a full day, as it's about 2,5 hours away. The site is monumental and very impressive. You can read much more in the section Mundo Maya on this site.
