It would really make me cringe to read “I had a great vacation in Playa. We stayed at the Iberostar Quetzal. And the garden was full of rats.”
Agoutis are very common around Playa. We will often see them running around the lawns and wild areas in Playacar. They are fun to watch and have a much higher cuteness factor than either Opossums or Rats. I’m still trying to get a good picture of an Agouti. They are constantly on the move when they are out in public and as a result I have found them very hard to photograph.

Michael: I nicknamed them "garden rats" for lack of knowing their real name. Both David and I thought they were adorable!! One morning we were lucky enough to see a mother agouti all curled up in the sunshine nursing her little baby!! Then after she was done nursing, she proceeded to chase him all around! Kids!!
One evening David did think he saw a really large rat at the resort. I said "No way!!!" The next night he saw it again and got a good look. It was a possum (thank God)!
