There have been two very popular restaurants in Playa; that everyone liked, yet after one visit to each I vowed never to go back to either of them. Now they are both shut down. I’ll be the only person on the board that won’t miss them. I am sorry that fans of Frida’s have lost a favorite. For me, this is a new beginning; perhaps we’ll get something better in its place. There are many other great restaurants in town to enjoy. I will only miss the décor at Frida’s.

I'll say it was he decor that got me.... I will also miss Arnold Trotter's dog who's name escapes me at the moment. Arnold is a guy from my neighbourhood here in Toronto who moved to PDC years ago.... he adopted a local dog who could be seen roaming around the bar & restaurant on just about every night.

I agree Michael...I didnt care for the Bar or Rest. that much but I did love the rooms and well those aint going anywhere...Somebody will come in and make it great again maybe under a different name but the rooms would be hard to change...

You know, I have to agree- we had just one meal there and it was perhaps our least favorite of the trip. Could have been an off night, I'm not sure. But we loved the ambience and enjoyed going there for drinks several times.

I agree with Michael as well- I liked Frida's decor but the restaurant wasn't too great. Hopefully something else fun will replace it

You're not alone Michael... I never could figure out the big deal about the place. Food was OK... atmosphere different... no great loss to me.

Yep, it was nice to look at as you walked by... Cactus salad was actually REALLY GOOD, the rest was ok... Keeping my fingers crossed for something nicer and not another set of silver shops...

Two things:

First, I think I have pictures of the same dog. He was at the Tequilla Barrel severeal nights when we were there. He loved chasing an empty water bottle. I'll have to figure out if I can upload the pictures and compare. Very sweet dog!!

Second, I keep telling my husband that I want to buy a hotel and move to Playa. He thinks I am joking, but I'm half way serious. I know nothing about running a hotel, but that should come with time. If anyone can help me get in touch with the owners of the building, I would apprieciate it.

Thanks
Roxie

DLR Bar

I'm trying to gather up enough money to buy the Frida Bar, but instead of the huge picture of Frida, I will hang a huge picture of David Lee Roth.

Any investors?

Wow

We enjoyed the ambience & had a good meal of shrimp, lobster & Beef tacos. Very good drinks too. Just hope someone else can go in & make a "go" of it!
Let the sun shine.

Well it is Playa and things do change there very fast...allways growing and moving from what I have learned...Rest assured that someone will go in and make it something different...Will it be better?no one knows. but I can assure it will not sit vacant for long...it is in a great location and has a great scene about it....I would suspect it( the bar) will have somewhat of the same vibe...the bar itself will have to be redone if they change the name of it because it has Frida all over it...Maybe the pool might actualy get used now!

I like that idea. At least he's a bit better looking than Frida. Wait- would that be a picture of David Lee Roth now or back in the 80's? That would make a difference
