It's like the bizarro world version of what happened to Andre Agassi, you know, a worst case scenario where you could imagine how he (Agassi) might have turned out.

Well softy and I only ate at two or three places there last year, so there wasn't much to compare with. Anyways what I liked about fridas was not only the food but the atmosphere. Even though pancho was a communist revolutionary who would have had a different view point than I would. I still do like revolutionaries though. I still liked the atmosphere of the place. As far as the food went my palate is not that choosey so I'm not a real critic as far as food goes. We didn't get sick or anything.
We anarchists must stick together.

Fridas! Long time comin.
As the former manager I am not suprised to hear about this. I feel bad for some of the employees, but not for Wayne Trotter nor his daughter. They have been in a lawsuit over the lease for a few years with a guy in Merida. They also had the Mexican version of the IRS after them, so not sure which one caught up with them. When they brought in the owners daughter thats when things went downhill, she didnt have a clue. Stopped the live music and changed the vibe. It was such a nice place but could have been more. Hope Edgar and Raul and the rest are able to find work, they deserve it. I would imagine the Italian lady who owns the restaurant next door is smiling from ear to ear. Fridas will be missed, but Wayne wont.

All right, first of all
![]() OK, now that that's clear (and note that I'm not any more than the previous posters, in any event), I feel the need to chime in and say that, whatever else you say about David Lee Roth -- and I ain't no particular fan of him or Van Halen -- I liked 'em a lot better with him than with Sammy Hagar. That stuff was all around when I was growing up and you couldn't avoid it even if you'd wanted to and tried hard, but I just never bought Sammy Hagar as the vocalist for Van Halen. That always seemed too much like, well, Van Halen + Sammy Hagar (who I also never liked in his solo efforts) rather than a cohesive thing called Van Halen. By contrast, and however terribly burnt out and forgotten (not entirely, obviously!) he may be now, you have to admit that David Lee Roth was certainly the right guy in the right place at the right time, there, when MTV first appeared. Who could beat the video for "Jump", either conceptually (it cost like 500 bucks to make or something, right?) or just for fun? In fact, who could beat VH at that time for fun all around? Then they split and DLR did his little EP of "Just a Gigolo" and that Beach Boys tune he covered or whatever, with video chock full or bikini babes, and it wasn't very convincing -- a downright celebration of lack of substance. And as such, what better symbol of the dawn of MTV? Billy Idol is the only one who comes to mind who might compete with him for the crown, though perhaps my brain is now too addled to think of others (and feel free to nominate!). But by the same token, VH had great success with DLR and then just lost what was making them fun -- Eddie's guitar work never being in question -- and went on with a very ho-hum replacement in a muscle shirt, M. Hagar (a guy named after men's polyester slacks, for cryin' out loud!). And there you have my unasked for $.02 worth on the topic. Steve |

Michael has done a fair amount of acting recently - just came off an episode of Hawaii Pamela's book "I'm With The Band" talks about her days as a groupie with the likes of Cynthia Plaster Caster...good friends with Melanie Griffith and Patti D'Arbanville...(The latter 2 were ex's of Don Johnson)... |

And now to redeem myself and turn very much back to the topic: I heard tonight that Blue Lobster sealed a deal just today to take over the operation of the space that was Frida's, along with the renting of the rooms that were Pancho's (apparently a specific requirement of the deal) with the owner of the land on which both properties sit, and that while plans for the space/design have not yet been decided, Blue Lobster will basically knock out at least part of their back wall in order to connect to the two spaces and plans to spend the next couple of months working on the space before opening it in December.
