Getting lost
I guess I keep getting lost following a lot of these posts now...But, back to the original post by James,...We visited the restaurant and bar a few times during our visits, and as I have let it be known before, I never thought of either as what I would call 'top notch'. The restaurant was OK, but we found that the bar was very over-priced and the drinks seemed watered down...Being on the PDC card was nice though, as it took away some of the 'ouch' of the cost. As far as atmosphere, etc., I think there are far better spots in PDC than there...Michael...glad you spoke up...you have more than a few people in agreement with you...
And, considering the meal we had the last time down there at Blue Lobster, if they take it over, I don't think we will be running quickly to get there again, either... Just my thoughts however...being a Tequila Barrel nut... Last edited by dougie46 : 10-09-2004 at 12:20 AM. |

Frida Stuff shipped to Merida...
I was in Merida two weeks ago and ventured into a nice bar called Pancho's in the downtown area. I started to notice many familiar pieces of art work on the walls.
It would appear that all the huge murals that used to be on the walls at Frida bar have been relocated to Panchos. At first I thought it may be just a coincidence but then I noticed they were selling Frida Bar, playa Del Carmen t-shirts in their gift shop.... Possibly the same owner.... anyway, I thought it was worth posting Quinn |

This would make sense as I believe the owners are from the Yucatan state, if I'm not mistaken, and do have other properties there.

That local8, he's funny, funny like a ruptured slpeen and you're by yourself in the woods and all you have to perform the operation on yourself is a rusty railroad spike. I'll miss Frida's, never had the food there, but drank there some (where haven't I drank some?) and like the decor/atmosphere.

The last time we stayed at Poncho's the maid left a water bottle full of bleach that she had been using for cleaning in the room. My wife brushed her teeth and used that bottle to rinse with! She couldnt taste anything for the rest of the trip.
Mgt. didnt seem very worried about. |

Just talked to the former manager at Blue Lobster, Ángel, today when he stopped by here. He was with them until a couple of months ago and was the one who originally told me about the plan to take over the space that used to be Pancho's and join it with what is currently Blue Lobster to make one place. He told me today that he left Blue Lobster in part because after he signed the contract on that agreement, there was some reneging on the part of the ownership when it came time to pay. Actually had some nice looking fliers and menus from a new place he's opened on 4th street called Mango Tail. We'll have to check that out, as he was always a very upstanding sort of guy, so I can imagine any place he runs would be at least moderately good.
Anyway, just thought I'd follow up on that report because even I was wondering why it never happened... Steve |
