Whatchya gonna be for Halloween???
I personally don't get into it and dread being invited to a Halloween party and having to come up with a costume. The last time I did was about 10 years ago. For lack of any good ideas, I picked up some face paint (blue/red/green/yellow), painted my face in four sections different colors, wore antennae with blinking skeleton heads, and dressed in all black. Even talked the ex into doing same. Told folks we were aliens.
Was actually a quite comfortable getup, except that you don't realize how often you touch your face (scratch your nose, etc.) until you see it all over your hands!Figured with the crew at this forum, costume ideas would run the gamut - from typical scary genre to downright psychologically disturbed. So.... what are you going to be? If still undecided, what have you been in the past?? Last edited by Nerak936 : 09-30-2004 at 09:05 AM. |

Took some good pictures. This year he's wearing the same outfit (nobody ever saw his cute legs after all) and I'm putting on an old housekeeping outfit--carrying a bucket and a feather duster, wearing a white frilly apron over a black dress with a name tag, Marian. So we'll be... Robin Hood and The Maid, Marian. :p (hopefully someone will get it) |

A few years ago I went to a Halloween shop in Houston to rent a costume for a party with a girlfriend. We get to the store pick out several each ,go to try them on and I tried on a teeny tiny Indian girl outfit. I stood there looking in the mirror at it or the lack there of,started laughing and was going to come out of the room to show my girlfriend ,opened the door to step out and there was a local tv reporter standind at my door. Tried to get back inside but he started talking to me ,with the camera in my face. He asked me if I was going to wear the costume I was in ,as my girlfriend stood behind him laughing knowing I was dying. Needless to say I did not wear that costume and ended up choosing to be catwoman instead since it had a mask to cover my face, did not want anyone at the party to recognize me from the 5 oclock news in that teeny tiny Indian outfit.I have never dressed up since or gone to a Halloween party.

I absolutely love Halloween and totally get into it. Last year I was Jackie Kennedy from the Zapruder film, with the pink suit and pillbox hat, with blood splattered all over me. Gross, but a good costume. Went to a bar party where the bartender was dressed as Castro. He refused to serve me because I was a Kennedy. Talk about method acting! I've also been Marie Antoinette, Courtney Love, and Flo from Mel's Diner.

I love halloween too...
We usually have a costume contest at work. Not many of us dress up but it's a lot of fun. I went as Esmeralda from the Hunch Back of Notre Dame a couple years ago which was fun and one of the guys here followed me around pretending to be Quasi Moto. (SP?) I haven't decided on my costume yet for this year. There is a new Halloween superstore that opened up not far from here so I may check that out.

It's fun if you have a good costumer that you like! Last year I was Lucy Ricardo and carried my Vitavitavegimen bottle (cranberry and vodka). This year I am going to be her again, but either the grape stomping episode or the candy making episode (with chocolate candy stuffed in my shirt!). A few years ago my boyfriend and I were Anthrax investigators (when we were having so many issues with it in the mail) and wore Tyvek white outfits, gas masks, gloves, boots, etc. It was funny...and we definitely got some looks in DC!

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday and I therefore also adore Dia de Los Muertos as it makes for a two day holiday. This year is a little off for us as we will be flying back from PDC on Halloween (it's a Sunday, husband has to work, blah blah blah). So we're having a big pirate party to celebrate Avalon's 3rd, my husband's 40th (reason for the trip), and my father's 93rd (yes, my real father). So we're dressing as the pirate family! Avalon will take her costume with us on the trip and can wear it on the way home on the plane. There have been times that I have planned a year in advance for our costumes.
On Halloween you get to dress silly, act goofy, eat candy and no one gets mad because there are no big family commitments. Cool! |

James just suggested that this year I go as my avatar, as it is so freaky looking!
Jeez, he's the one who made it!! Met some Playa folks last night at ****** and they all were like, hey, you're a lot cuter than your ugly avatar!! ![]() |

My favorite costume was the year I went as the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz and my daughter was Dorothy. My wife made the costume and it was really good. I did the face make-up and the whole bit.
This year my youngest daughter tells me I am going to be Robbie Rotten from a show called Lazy Town. My daughter is going to be Stephanie from the same show with pink hair and all. I have no idea what Robbie Rotten looks like, but I never have much choice in what I am going to be. |

Thanks for starting this thread... I'm going to use it as a reminder to get busy assembling a costume now so I don't end up with the usual last minute scramble.
Every year I go to a house party hosted by a couple who are obsessed with Halloween. From what I understand, it takes them more than a week to setup all the decorations they've accumulated through the years. There is so much stuff they have to use a storage facility and a U-haul truck to get it all to their home. On the outside, it's the equivalent of an elaborate Christmas house on the drive-by circuit, and the ghoulish theme literally extends/consumes the interior. It's quite whacko... Considering all the work they put into this event, there's a certain amount of pressure on us guests to be creative. You don't want the prize given for lamest costume... that's worse than not wearing one at all. I'll be paying attention to your suggestions... but I'm not interested in wearing any Dallas Cowboys attire. Jimmy |

I know who that is !!!JT - It is so much fun when they are young.....the costumes do change as they get older... My daughters choice.. Age 1 - Pumpkin costume (the cute one you buy for Babies) 2 - Baby Bop (Barney) 3 - A Good Witch (purple/pink looking witch cosutme) 4 - Angel 5 - Princess Jasmine 6 - Power Puff Girl 7 - Scary Spider Woman costume with orange wig and lots of gore ! 8 - Catwoman 9 - She Devil (skin tight red leather looking pants, with a glitter red crop top) 10 - this year I told her why dont I just give her the $ I would have spent on a costume and she can buy something else with it. (She agreed) She has $4600 worth of ortho and so candy is out of the question !!!Enjoy it while they are young !!!!! ![]() |
