I hear Frida is a co -- D'OH!
For a good sports & sushi combo, there's Caba -- D'OH!! You can get some Asian food and chill out nicely at Shak -- D'OH!!! For beach action, there's always the old reliable Capt -- D'OH!!!! If you don't mind a trek down south, a lot of people like the oceanside eats at Gring -- D'OH!!!!! ![]() Seriously, you'd think people would be complaining about Playa potentially becoming a ghost town rather than excessive development, with all the sudden closings/changes/what have you. A visit to Avario Xaman-Ha in playacar is easy, cheap and charming ... do a search of "favorite restaurants" for a list of favorites (mine is El Chino's, Calle 4 between Ave. 10 y 15) ... do a search of JimmyMn posts for his excellent list of bars and nightclubs

Just kiddin' around about those places closing, you know. Just seems like there was a rash of that all of a sudden, and as has been pointed out, many places are moving/reopening in another location, etc (Gringo Dave's, Cabalova, and I'm sure Tutix will be back on track after they take care of their storm damage). There are always new places opening up, as well, and any places that do go out of business are surely replaced by other new and perhaps better, or at least different, places. Just don't want people to get the wrong idea ! (Thus the 3

If it's your first time to the area the ruins and snorkeling are a must. Then the decision is which ruis and where to snorkle. SOOOO many options. I have heard so many great things about James & Anna's tours being much smaller groups and more personal so I think I'll do one of theirs in Feb. Even then you get to choose between Tulum and Coba. It all depends on what your looking for. As for snorkeling I would do that on my own rather than an organized tour. Whether it's Xcaret, Xel Ha, Yal Ku (my personal favorite with a stop in Akumal for additional snorkeling) or a Cenote (haven't tried yet but is combined in a James & Anna's tour. Sorry can't remember off the top of my head it's one or both or the ruins tours). Hope this helps.
