Snorkeling in Calica??

We went on a cruise in October. One of our ports was Calica. We booked a Snorkeling tour on a catamaran through the cruise ship. We were taken on a bus to an area that looked like it was in a bay or lagoon with beautiful condos all around it. I can't remember the name of the place. We went on a snorkeling tour from there. We only went to one stop, but had such a great time. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the company. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Or if you have recommendations for a snorkel tour out of Playa on a catamaran that would be as nice, I would appreciate hearing that too. I read all the posts about the Cozumel tours -- is it better to go from Cozumel? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the Fat Cat Catamaran Trip. It's been a hot discussion topic recently on the forum. Try out the search tool at the top right of the page and you're sure to find out more  .

Snorkeling in Calica??

Thanks for the information. I finally found my information from our trip. The catamaran was the Raiatea and we sailed out of Port Aventuras. The Fat Cat sounds like more fun though :D

There was a review about the Raiatea Catamaran posted just a few days ago here on the forum that you might want to read --- click here. I have not been on the Raiatea Catamaran, however, I have been on the Fat Cat Catamaran three times. It's a wonderful way to spend the day and the crew is fabulous.

Thanks!

Tanaratige - Thanks for the website. My husband and I discovered it a few days ago and he thinks it looks wonderful. It is a very well designed web site. He really likes the fact it is less expensive than the Fat Cat and they pick you up right at your hotel.

Denisea - Yes, I had already read that review. It is the only review I can find negative or positive on this trip. My husband really wants to go on it so I was hoping to find something else. I know Steve from Playa Maya said somewhere that they have been known to cancel trips due to not enough passengers or bad weather.

Well, I will probably go along with my husband wishes. Because afterall, I'll be in Mexico and floating around the water on any old boat sounds good to me.

Thanks!

From what I know about the Fat Cat and from viewing the web site for Bleu Magic there are some key differences between the 2 Catamaran tours worth noting.

Fat Cat Catamaran:
Size: 41 Ft Catamaran
Capacity: 35 passengers
Length of tour: 5 hours (half day)
Activities: Snorkeling, Boom Netting, Swimming
Destination: Xaac Bay, Mangrove Inlet, Spiral Island
Bleu Magic Catamaran:
Size: 85 Ft Catamaran
Capacity: 100 passengers
Length of tour: 4.5 hours (half day)
Activities: Snorkeling
Destination: Inah Bay
One key difference is that the Fat Cat Catamaran is a much smaller catamaran that carries fewer passengers in comparison to the Bleu Magic. As a result, the Fat Cat is capable of providing a much more personalized and initimate experience for it's passengers --- it's like being on a boat with family or friends as opposed to being on a tour. Another key difference is the sights you get to see and the activities that are available. The Fat Cat goes to more than one destination and offers more activities. Also it should be noted that Inah Bay, the Bleu Magic's snorkeling destination, is a very popular snorkeling destination for tours which means you will problably encounter lots of other people during your visit compared to Xaac Bay, the Fat Cat's snorkeling destination, where the most you are likely to encounter is one or two other small tour/charter boats.

IMHO, the Fat Cat, though perhaps a little more expensive, delivers more value for your dollar than the Bleu Magic. Regardless of which Catamaran you choose, I'm sure you will have a wonderful vacation in Playa.

MargaritaC,
You also might want to think about the Robinson Crusoe tour. I think this is the one we are going to try in May. Here is the website:
http://www.akumal.com/ Click on the sailing and fishing link.

They only have to have 6 to make a trip.

My family is going to Calica later this month. I am sorry I don't have information to help you, but have you seen a rental car place and snorkel site my large family can snorkel from, nearest Calica? I'd like to know a little bit about the area as we will only be there one day.
