Mexico President Calderon Interviewed

This is a very good video interview with the President of Mexico addressing some topics of his last couple of years of his term,

What Mexico is doing to welcome Canadians and Americans to live and to visit. (2.5 million Americans/Canadians are living in Mexico? I did not know that figure was so large )

and also addresses the violence and crime questions that many people ask.

re : Calderon

Calderon and Obama had a joint press conference covered by C-Span at length .... we do seem to enumerate the same problems frequently without making a whiole lot of progress ... still history will credit Calderon as a great presidente .... thanks for the post and link

I visit the "blogdelnarco" website pretty much every other day and although it exposes reality for Mexicans living in specific locales, it hardly represents the bulk of the country. Reading the blog helps me make informed choices about my driving route from the Texas border. If it wasn't for Por Esto, blogdelnerco, and the noticeably increased Federale presence throughout Mexico, I probably wouldn't be able to tell the 2011 Mexico from the Mexico of 2005.

Violent Deaths in Mexico: Everything Is Not as it Seems | TheCatalist

What time period is this Aug 2010 article referring to? The rules in the narco situation in Mexico are changing quickly. I am sure it wasn't long ago when many area's that are risky today were safe. It wasn't long ago when they didn't strip, torture and decapitate like is happening daily now. Probably children were off limits not long ago. Probably American ICE agents were off limits. PDC is very safe today but cartels play by their own rules and let's face it : they are more powerful than the Mexican government.

That being said... Mexico, by and large, is safe.
There are pockets of extreme violence but it does not define the entire country.

Yes,today I agree. The mexican people do not deserve to be painted with one brush. The question is what will Mexico look like a year or two from now should the escalation continue? What will it take for the Mexican government to get control of the corruption epidemic and the cartels? It doesn't help that guns flow almost freely over the border from the USA and the drug market will not shrink.
