Dolphin Discovery

My daughter and her husband want to swim with the dolphins at Dolphin Discovery in PA. Would it be best for them to book this ahead of time, or can that be done after we get to Playa? Thanks.

I'd research other places, too. We did Dolphin Discovery and the dolphins were a blast, but the place was sort of run down, the water you were in wasn't very clean. This past week we were at X-Caret and the dolphin area there was much nicer. You have to pay to get in the door, but there's a lot to see and do in addition to the dolphins so you can make a day of it.

Also, we were able to book Dolphin Discovery at our resort in the afternoon, for the next morning. We did it kind of spur of the moment.

it's best to book ahead, if you want to go at a certain time.

The dolphins are on a schedule as to when they do shows, but you don't have to book months in advance. A call one day, and typcially you would be able to go the next or following day.

I don't recall asking for any opinions, I just want to know about booking the swim, but thanks anyway, and we sure will enjoy our "swim".

Ignorance is bliss.

Once again, didn't ask for any judgements or opinions, just need some info.

Have you at least watched the video?

No matter, what goes around comes around, one way or the other. Life will eventually show you the respect (or lack thereof) that you show it.

I am not judging you. There is just a lack of knowledge surrounding activities like dolphin swims, taking photos with "pet" monkeys, etc. Hey I've even seen a lion cub on 5th Ave a few years back. What many Americans fail to think about is where the animals have come from, what is done with them when they get too big/out of control/parks close and what they teach their children by buying into the tourist scams. It's cyclical and I feel as an educator it's important to try to pass on knowledge.

Not all places are like this I just encourage you to do 5 minutes worth of research. Besides, you're paying for the activities...you probably want your money to go to a good use, not only for your family's experience but also for the animals you'll spend time with.

I've never been to Xcaret and I'm not sure where they get their animals from but I have heard many, many good things about this ecopark. One of the reasons for this forum is to help people with trip planning and I have seen the areas in PA and the water and set up IMO are not that great. If you decide to go make sure you let us all know what you thought of your experience.

I hope you have a wonderful trip...more like I know you'll have a wonderful trip! :D I hop on the plane tomorrow at 6:10am!!!! Cannot wait!

can't help you on this one, for me dolphins should be where they belong ( in the open sea) and not in swimming pool cages.
But everyone is free to chose, so I won't say whats wrong or right, its just my personal opinion.
I hope you enjoy the swim

I've been researching the different dolphin swims and it seems like the one at Chankanaab (Sp?) Park in Cozumel is one of the better ones. The dolphins are in what appears to be a much more natural environment than at PA. Has anyone been to this park and can let me know what they think?
