Beach Thursday!
Dunno why or how it came to be, but that's what folks over on Twitter call every Thursday, posting links and photos with that hashtag (#BeachThursday). Not sure why we should miss out here, so here ya go with one for this Thursday. :)

Thanks Stephen!

Much needed at 38 degrees and rain. 23 days to Playa!

Opatije 05-02-2013 05:22 PM

Actually, raining now and the forecast calls for strong wind and stormy weather.

snappysammy 05-02-2013 05:37 PM

Big rain in Playa last nite (first of the season, really, except for the token April Shower on April 1st, and then nothing thereafter) - and today at 6 pm thousands of - guess what? - Mayflies - funny how that works. They'll all (or mostly all) be gone by this time tomorrow, though. Funny how that works, too.

Other with sharper eyes than mine have correctly identified them as termites, not Mayflies. See link:

Termites - Facts About Termites - Types of Termitse - PestWorldforKids.org

From the Wikipedia blurb on termites:

'In areas with a distinct dry season, the alates leave the nest in large swarms after the first soaking rain of the rainy season. In other regions, flights may occur throughout the year, or more commonly, in the spring and autumn. Termites are relatively poor fliers and are readily blown downwind in wind speeds of less than 2 km/h, shedding their wings soon after landing at an acceptable site, where they mate and attempt to form a nest in damp timber or earth.'

Thanks for the comments!

Not presently in town, no, but I can PM you when I am, SS.

Forecast I'm looking at says today may be a bit dodgy but then shows 5 straight days of sun and mid/upper 80s temps. That's saying something when no days suggest even a shower!

It's that day again. :)
