Veracruz, Tecolutlia

Looking for some help here. We are looking at going around Veracruz this year. Flying into Veracruz. We would like to rent a house 20 miles out of Tecolutlia in Casitas. The questions I have are...I am assuming I can get taxi or bus from airport to Tecolutlia. But then do I get a taxi to take me to the house in Casitas? Does Casitas have a small local bus service? The house we want is about a kilometer from Casitas so that is no problem to walk to grocery and eating. Help!

Methinks that would be better asked on a Veracruz Facebook page.

Your point of origin would be the biggest factor in determining the best and most cost effective way to get to Casitas.

The closest airport to Casitas is Aeropuerto El Tajin (PAZ) in Poza Rica. Aeromexico and Aeromar both fly there.

Drive Times:
Mexico City to Casitas = 4hrs
Veracruz City to Casitas = 3hrs
Poza Rica to Casitas = 1.5hrs

Arriving at (VER), you'd need to take a taxi or shuttle into Veracruz centro where the main bus station is located. Bus service up coastal Hwy-180 is a relatively slow process (lots of topes and pot holes) and not overly scenic. It's one lane in each direction and there's always slow traffic with no way to get around it. You might be able to get a ticket to Casitas, but if not, get one for Nautla or some other city up the coast from it. I've seen ADO buses dropping passengers off along the highway near Casitas.

If arrival at Mexico City's airport is more economical, a bus to the terminal in Poza Rica is a pretty decent ride, if the buses actually travel up HWY-130/132. That route is relatively fast on smooth roads and is especially scenic between Tulancingo and Poza Rica. From Poza Rica's bus station, you will have no problem finding a taxi or bus to your final destination. FYI, Poza Rica is a bustling little city and an active crossroad between Tampico, Mexico City, and Vercruz. It's primarily a colonial city with a modern section as you get closer to the airport. The super Walmart there is one of the flashier and more attractive ones I've seen in Mexico. The roadway from there to the coast is extremely modern with rarely any delays and there are a number of hotels on HWY-180 as you depart the city, if you need one.

There is a nice ruins (El Tajin) between Poza Rica and the neighboring smaller town of Papantla. Papantla is also the vanilla capital of Mexico.

If you have other questions feel free to ask. I'm extremely familiar with the area having driven through there more than a dozen times.

Thanks so much! I found a really cool house very near the beach. LOL, I am famous for finding houses for vacation and then figuring out how to get there! All in an adventure. Will pull out a map and flight plan and see if I want to go on with this plan or another! I will yell if more questions! Thanks!
