Playa for Christmas and NYE 2004/05.

Playa for Christmas and NYE 2004/05.

We’ll be in town for the usual holiday Mega Party.

We normally start this thread in October. As the planning process is already well underway, and my own personal calendar is already full; I thought I would start the thread early.

If you are planning to be in Playa and would like to meet some of the other people that post on this forum, add a message to this string and share some details about your plan.

If you are new to the forum and want to find out what all the fuss is about then search for this.
“Christmas and New Year Holidays 2003/2004”
(a little search feature training for our new friends).

Our own itinerary will look something like this.

Sat Dec 18 Arrive in Playa. La Ranita late Saturday evening to find out who else is in town.

Mon Dec 20 Leave for Merida, Progreso and the Gulf Coast. (If you are heading out that way around the same time send me a PM).

Sun Dec 26 Return to Playa, Party at VillaFlamboyan. Send me a PM if you are interested in this.

Mon Dec 27 Beach day (and airport pick up).

Tue Dec 28 Head off to Chichen, via Tulum and Valladolid. Catch the night show and stay in Piste at the Hacienda Chichen.

Wed Dec 29 Morning tour of Chichen Itza. Early afternoon at Balancanche then return to Playa before the evening.

Thu Dec 30 BFE IV (the fat cat cruise).

The boat trip will need a reservation. See Heather's post.

It's offical Keith and I will be in Playa Dec 22 - Jan 8. Purchased airfare last week. Deposit on condo sent in this week.

Count us in for the party on Dec 26 and the Big Fat Event III. The only other thing I definitely want to do this trip is get down to Muyil since we didn't make it last year.

Me Too! Me Too!

While I'm a bit disturbed that I'm already replying to a Christmas thread (please promise that I won't start seeing Christmas stuff in the stores until at least July 5th), I am excited to report that I will also celebrate Christmas in Playa.

2 weeks - December 23 to January 6. Tickets purchased and condo being confirmed! I'll definately be up for Christmas/New Years activities with the PlayaInfo peeps!

we'll add another calendar to our system to accommodate planning of Holiday events and stuff...

Susie Q Roo 06-24-2004 10:30 AM

Since this will be my first Christmas ever away from family (unless I'm lucky enough for them to come down here and that's not likely...), I'll enjoy being with some familiar faces and friendly folks (sounds like it should be an ad for Cracker Barrel, which, I know for a fact, is closed on Christmas). Can I be on the invitation list for... everything? I promise I'll bring something better than fungus cookies!

Tyramania 06-24-2004 10:42 AM

Susita! Yes, of course you're included in the holiday festivities!

Maybe you can find a recipe for a nice fungus casserole!

Playa for Xmas04/NY05

How ironic. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours on PlayaInfo reading posts about past Christmases/NYEs in Playa and trying to plan a trip for Dec. 25/26th-Jan. 2. I was thinking it was pretty early to start planning, but I'm glad to see others are on the same wavelength.

Airfare and hotel are looking like they're going to be pretty expensive around that time - but what the hell! If anyone comes across any smokin' deals for airfare SFO-CUN around that time, or hotels in town that aren't gouging too much, please let me know. I've contacted all the PlayaInfo partner hotels and am just waiting for responses. I've also been in contact with Shammy, resident TA, who has been very helpful. Looking forward to a White (Sand) Christmas!

Xel and other visitors flying from SFO,

My experience with shopping this route (SFO – CUN) and the LAX - CUN route for Xmas NYE, is that the best fares are offered before July. After sometime in June or early July they start to increase and do not usually come back down. Exceptions do occur, though I don’t remember one in the last 4 years. If an airline finds they have too many seats open they will (or their computer will) push prices down till sales are back on track.

Last year. I found the best price was $650 for SFO – CUN in June (1 stop). By August it was up to $750 I grabbed my tickets at that point. This year I booked early and locked in $650. (LAX may be about $50 to $100 cheaper). The minimum fare with a quick check on Expedia is still at about $660. However with the carrier I chose (the flight times and route are good for me) the fare is now up to $720.

Don’t just rely on the net. Call a good travel agent and give them a target to beat. The best travel agents can do better than the net about 50% of the time.

We hope see you in Playa.

Mike.

Thanks for the tip - $660 was the lowest I found... I better book pronto.

Can we be on the invite list?

We'll be there already. We are aiming to be in our car and driving down from here (BC, Canada) around mid Oct, aiming to be in Playa by November 1st. We may be available for some of the fun-sounding activities depending on whether or not I've found any work by then! :) Hopefully by then we will have found a reliable and not-too-expensive nanny/babysitter so that we can enjoy the later-evening activities as well. (How about the fat cat tour, is that mostly adult-oriented? )

Critter 06-24-2004 05:27 PM

Kids are welcome on the fat cat.

denisea 06-24-2004 06:13 PM

If kids weren't allowed, there'd be no one to keep an eye on us bigger kids.

roni 06-24-2004 09:32 PM

I found some from Portland for $630, with Mexicana through Guadalajara--gotta coordinate with a couple of friends who have made noises like they would like to come.

denisea 06-24-2004 09:43 PM

Roni, are you and Kathy seriously thinking of coming down over the holidays? That would be soooo cool. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :D
