New to Quintana Roo, looking for Mechanic

Hey guys! First post here, though I've been scouting this forum for info since we moved here in October. I am out in Akumal with my wife and son. We are online entrepreneurs who have been traveling full time for 4 years and just settled into the area for a year or two. So we bought a '05 BMW X3 with 115k KM on the clock and had it checked by two mechanics who said all good. Now three months later I have a transmission light on the dash. So first thought was take it to the dealer in Cancun, but seeing the reviews on that place I am worried it will come back worse than it went in! Can anyone recommend a mechanic to have a look at the car? Prefer a BMW savvy mechanic, but I open to suggestions.

Autozone will do some diagnostics for free.

I'm still figuring out what to do with car maintenance. I've gone to a couple of small private guys and while they seemed resourceful and knew their shit, they seemed like the type of guys that were more qualified to get an extra 2000 miles out of a broken down car that had 300,000 miles on it, than the types of guy that simply do proper car maintenance, if you catch my drift.

Just my general impression, I'll be watching this thread for recommendations for myself as well.

I don't remember seeing a lot of garages in Q. Roo. Actually I have seen more people doing their repairs curbside on older cars than garages to be honest.

I know in the North there are the green angels, is there not a number you can call to get a referral? Or try the police or ministry of transport/DMV equiv they must have a downlow on garages in the area for any breakdowns they encounter.

The shop called Carfix is recommended for BMW, not sure why.

Good starting point..

Here is their website

Phone number is in the previous link.

You may also like to contact BMW itself to see if there are any authorized mechanics for your make

Also you may like to ask Mayan Moto in Cancun if they know of any service centers or Mechanics for BMWs in Akumal or PDC.

Thanks for the info, I will give carfix a try! I am trying to stay away from the Cancun BMW.
