Return to Playa del Carmen!
Thanks for everyone's HOTEL help in my other thread. I'm so excited to be returning to Playa Del Carmen. My husband and I last came to the Riviera Maya for our honeymoon 4 years ago. We'll be returning for our wedding Anniversary in September. Super excited!!!

I never wrote a trip report for my honeymoon.. but I'll make sure to write one for this year's trip. I love reading everyone's reports... It's what has made me want to return to badly. I loved Playa del Carmen since the first time.. and I've been stalking this board ever since. :)

We've decided on Club Yebo for 3 nights and we ended up getting an awesome Living Social deal for Occidental Grand Xcaret for the next 4 nights 5 days. That's 7 nights and 8 days in beautiful Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen. :teeth_smi:teeth_smi:teeth_smi:teeth_smi:teeth_smi :teeth_smi:teeth_smi:teeth_smi

Okay, only problem.. we may not make it if I don't book our flights soon. haha. I should've bought them last week. There's was a price for about 760 total.. now the price has jumped up about $100.:mad::mad: Booo!!

I'm going to try to wait just a tad bit longer and see what happens. I'll keep you guys updated.

Til then... I'm going to post pictures of our last trip to the Riviera Maya. ::memories::

give me a bit. i don't even know how to post pictures. haha

I posted this thread in the non-all inclusive because of my upcoming trip to playa. But these pics are all of an all inclusive trip I took 4 years ago.
Excuse the mix up in the threads. :doh2:

September 8, 2008 - 7am Logan Airport in Boston.. Newly married and super excited to be going to Mexico!!!

We ended up staying at the Viva Wyndham Maya for 2 nights before our switch to my Dream Resort. I ended up getting 2 nights free after falling into buying Kitchen Cookery. I totally fell into that trap of.. come see our showcase cause you've won 2 nights free. I've learned my lesson on that one. But hey, I still got the 2 nights free. :emb:

This is my hubby Joel. We met in college and he waited til I graduated from college to propose. Not so smart boy.. now he's stuck with my student loan debt. MUAHAHAHAHHH!! but he still loves me.. I guess.

This trip was his first trip ever out of the US. He was shell shocked over everything.

The Viva Wyndham was a great starter resort. I probably would not go there again because of my experience at the next resort we went to. I was spoiled after that. The resort is fun and the beach was so beautiful!!! That was my favorite part. Ugh, I loved looking at that blue water.

I had never been to a beach so beautiful before. Mind you, my family is all from Puerto Rico. I've seen gorgeous beaches but this was something so different. The sand was much softer and cooler. The water was so warm and clear. Ugh, I can't wait to return.

The beds were hard.. and they gave us a smoking room. I was little peeved about that. They insisted it was non-smoking.. the room smelled so much like smoke. But.. we were on our honeymoon. We sucked it up for the 2 nights.. and just enjoyed the beach.

Emily83g 07-23-2012 02:57 PM

The Viva Wyndham is located in Playacar and we took a walk around.
STARBUCKS!!! i was desperate for some caffeine!

The hubby needs his red bull.. so we stocked up.. we went sure we were going to find anymore red bull when we moved to the next resort.

One day in Mexico and the boy is already burnt... He kept forgetting to put sunblock..

He was a lobster!!! :emb:

At the resort there was a man painting by hand.. we ended up buying the one he's making now.

The shows were fun and night.. even though they were outside.. and we got eaten up by mosquitos. :( but I wasn't going to complain once. LOL I was just happy to be there.

The last day.. the boy did some archery... as I watched and got tipsy on my tequila sunrises. haha.

Those 2 nights went by quick and we were off to the next resort. I had been dreaming about going there far before I even got married. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...758_3394_n.jpg

DAY 3 - September 2008 Old pictures. - Off to my DREAM HOME.

Let's just say.. my hubby was shell shocked with the first resort.. he almost fell over when we got to Iberostar Grand Hotel.
I had been dying to come here since it had opened.. When I saw pictures of the infinity pool.. I knew I wanted to be there.

He kept telling me "Babe, THE BATHROOM IS EVEN BEAUTIFUL!!!" haha.. yeah it was.

and then when he saw the rooms compared to the Viva Wyndham.:eek::eek::eek: He was a happy boy and so was I! I was HOME!!!!!

Your pictures are gorgeous - that blue in the water is incredible, isn't it? So glad you guys are coming back to Playa. There's no where like it! But don't wait 4 years to post your pictures this time!

Emily83g 07-23-2012 09:13 PM

I'll try not to wait 4 years this time :) I have more pics of our trip that I'll post tomorrow.

During our honeymoon.. we took a few excursions.

Went to Xel-ha, Rode horses on the beach, and snorkeled in Cozumel. We're still trying to figure out if we can afford to do a couple excursions this time around. They were kind of expensive when we did them last time.

So if anyone has any advice on fun things to do that won't break the bank. Send your suggestions. :)

Here are few pics of the excursions we did.

On the ferry to Cozumel.. Looks like someone else wanted to be in the picture also. haha

Heading to Punta Sur for some crocodile watching and then snorkeling at the beach.

One of my favorite images of the beach... Hammocks are the best!

We didn't end up seeing any crocodiles.. not that I really wanted to see one.

So if anyone has any suggestions of excursions that we wouldn't want spend more too much money on. Honestly, this trip is all about relaxing on the beach for me.. But I know the boy will want to at least do something.

We love animals.. We wanted to do the Jungle Place and see the monkeys. But the day they availability doesn't work for us. :ohno::ohno:

Excellent! Exciting to return isn't it?

Well here's a suggestion for a "cheap excursion" take the colectivo to Akumal and snorkle there - you don't need to book a tour, just you and hubby go and either pack a small cooler or lunch/snack at Lol Ha.

I love that idea!! Can you tell me more on how to take the colectivo. I've never done it. Where do I take it from? Can we get the snorkel gear in Akumal?

Cheap excursions?! No problem. I've never taken a collectivo out of Playa, but you can ask anyone or do a search where to locate them. You can take them to Akumal and rent snorkel gear at the dive shop, or go a little bit further south on the collectivo and go to Tulum pueblo where you can catch a taxi to the beautiful beach for about 60 pesos. Stop and grab food and drink to bring with you for the beach or go to a beach club, which can be pricey. Busses also go to Tulum from Playa and are inexpensive. There are ruins at Tulum but get there early to avoid the heat and crowds. I think they open at 8 or 830 and entry is maybe 50 pesos? Fantastic eye candy! The pueblo is not near as busy as Playa, but worth exploring.
You can also go to Puerto Morelos for good snorkeling, 250 pesos for a boat ride to the reef and back. The reef area is protected there and there is a govt fee included in the price. The town there is laid back and a nice break from the bustle of Playa.
A day trip to Isla Mujeres can be a blast. The ferry is maybe 120 pesos pp and you can rent a golf cart for 500 pesos and tour the whole island or not rent and just hang out on the north end's beautiful beaches. This maybe would be a "splurge" day but if you haven't been to Isla it's worth checking out. Very different from Coz.
Take advantage of the AI you stay at and make a bag lunch and always bring water for your excursions. Check the bus schedules and take a trip inland. Rent a car for the day (500 pesos) and explore beaches and pueblo's. Don't hesitate to ask for suggestions from the person sitting next to you, a local or a tourist. I always pack a collapsable cooler which has saved me mucho bucks over the years.
Have fun!

I can't help with the collecto, as we rented a driver for the day and had them take us to Tulum and Akumal. We did it thru this site, and the service was awesome and not overly expensive.

We also stayed at Club Yebo in the 2-bedroom, it was a great trip and the folks are Club Yebo were GREAT!

You can rent the snorkel gear at the dive shop right on the beach at Akumal, we took 6,7 and 11 year old grandkids with us, Akumal was a highlight of the trip and it is a spectacular beach!
