Here's a nice shot of the beach that Steve of PlayaMaya posted on our forum.

You can discuss this image and the beach here.

My earliest memories of Playa are from La Ruina on the beach around Calle 2. I went there today to check out the beach, which is about the same size as I remember back in '97. It is interesting how certain areas of beach were affected so much more than others.

The two reports I have made so far seem to represent the most damaged sections of town that I have seen. On Thursday, we will post updates that we have received from many smaller hotels in town. For most of these hotels, there remain no traces of damage.

During the morning of October 21st, 2005, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya began its dance with hurricane Wilma. This page will attempt to focus on the damages and restoration process in Playa del Carmen and Playacar, the planned community to the South of Playa.

My goal is to visit as many key sites in town here in Playa as well as in the greater Riviera Maya area, showing what happened and how we have reacted to the damages. The spirit of the locals has been thrilling and we are proud to have experienced the rush of rejuvenation so predominant in our town, even as harrowing as the experience may have been.
